Like most here, there are times when I wonder what's become of FChat and why I log on less frequently than I did in the past. Then someone like Terry Springer shows me why this is a fantastic community of generous people who often go out of their way for a total stranger.

Three years ago I bought a '77 308GTB from an FChatter in Atlanta. The car was previously Terry's and came exactly as described. I bought it as much for the color, blu dino metallico, as for the fact that it was a carb'ed "B". The engine bay had been previously detailed and resprayed and the two data plates on either side of the bay were missing, but the documentation going back to the original selling dealer and owner was spectacular and made up for this little shortcoming, which I thought I'd remedy sometime in the future. I've put some money into a major service and a new interior, and have thoroughly enjoyed the car! Still, I wondered how I would find some replacement data plates to complete the car, but it wasn't exactly keeping me up at night. Anyway, fast forward almost three years, and I decided to PM Terry and, on a lark, ask about the data plates. A couple of days later, I get a PM from Terry who says he remembers the car fondly, and thinks he may have the plates somewhere in the trove of things Ferrari he has in the garage. He tells me that he'll be away for a week or so, and will take a look when he's back. Sure enough, two weeks later I hear from Terry that he's found the plates and will mail them to me. A week later, the data plates arrive and my car is now complete!!

Now, I've NEVER met or spoken to Terry and he doesn't know me from adam. That he would bother, with something so small and from soooo long ago, to help out a brother Tifosi is extraordinary, and emblematic of what makes this community soooo special, despite its occasional flaws. It's not the brand, it's not the sponsors, it's not the technology.....it's the PEOPLE!!

Terry exemplifies all that is good about this rag tag community of miscreants (of which I proudly count myself one!).

Thanks you Terry, I owe you big time.

Nice story - I've met great people here too in various countries and across continents even.

You are a lucky man to have found that combination. Enjoy!

Good on Terry, and I'm glad it worked out that way.

However, the fact that this is considered "extraordinary" and represents FerrariChat "at its best", IMO, if anything shows how this community can improve. This type of camaraderie should be the norm, not the 'best of'.

Please, no need for anyone to get uppety about my statement; just take it as a challenge to make this already strong community better. :)

We definitely need to hear more stories about F-Chatters doing good -- the more prevalent this type of stuff is, the more others will be motivated to act like that.

I'm happy the data plates worked out! :)

Good idea to get in contact with him. In general it's important that what belongs to these cars gets passed along rather than kept as a souvenir or sold off.(sounds like in this case it was just forgotten)

Given Terry's standing, I'm sure they were just forgotten. He certainly went out of his way for me. My turn to somehow pay it forward!

Nice "feel good" story. Probably feels good to share it too.

These unexpected things do help us believe in our fellow man when they happen.

    Yep.

In any instance, from Day One when I was lurking around, Tspringer was one of those fellers that made this site one to enjoy . . . and still does.

Oh crap. Can you delete your comment? Once Terry sees this, he'll become completely insufferable, as opposed to being merely pompous.

    Just kidding, of course

I have known Terry for more than a decade and he is a great guy. On a side note, Terry, his wife and kids just got back from sailing the Caribbean in a sloop rigged sailboat for about three years. In fact, we met up with them on a power cat that I chartered for a week in White Bay, Jost van Dyke, BVI in January 2009 for some libations. They're now back in Georgia.

He must have forgot to rivet them back on.....

Not the VIN info on them but nice to have, it has the engine tuning data on one LH side and the other RIGHT side says:

    "Always use Agip Oil".....

Well, good luck with THAT one!
