Was searching the old board for a technical thread, and came upon this thread on the ancient FChat. It is a fascinating read, and thought some of you might enjoy re-reading it. A lot of folks still here, and some FChat legends since departed, participated reflecting and describing amazing emotions. I was much taken by Fchatters worried about who was in NYC and not signed in. Would suggest starting at the first post on 9/11/2001.

I think I will copy some of the 9/11 FChat threads and save them away. They are really an oral history.

Wow that thread is even before my time on FC. Very old school and a very interesting read.

It's hard to read some of that even now. I can't believe some of the posts that were made and some of the arguments that were going on. It's too bad people couldn't leave politics out of the discussion. Some things are simply more important!!

I looked at that thread, and while it made me terribly depressed again about the unmitigated disaster that was 9/11, it also made be feel nostalgic for the old Fchat, which regrettably I was never a part of.

The old Fchat P & R apparently had

    1) No dumb pwn3d pix Especially none used as a complete reply to someone else's painstakingly typed out post.

    2) Not too many scathing personal attacks out in the open (these were carried out by personal email, mano a mano, as it were). Not many ad hominem attacks to immediately try to discredit the views of other posters

    3) Really well thought-out and thought provoking material.

These things do exist from time to time on the current Fchat, but I doubt we'll ever see that level of intelligent discussion as was apparently prevalent in the old Board.

I'm just glad I had the honor to help the rescuers. I consider it 1 of my finest moments when I was able to really help my country by using my enclosed 2 car trailer to carry supplies for the Red Cross relief effort.

I just wish I could have done more
