When my car is parked after idling, the FCS/Drive Slowly etc comes on...car won't start. I'm thinking my A/C is weak and am going to get it evacuated and recharged. The AC shop won't install the new drier I have as the car is too exotic. Where does the drier install....is it an easy job or does half the engine have to come out?? I assume you install after the system has been evacuated? Finally, where are the "nipples" for the positive and negative pressures? Thanks. Any other suggestions for me?? Paul
The nipples are next to the cooling system's expansion tank, on the wheel arch. The Slow Down light indicates a malfunction in the catalyst's ECU or temperature sensor, not in the A/C system! Stefano
As far as I know there are no sensors on the Air Conditioning system. I just went thru mine and there was never a warning signal. Go to O'Riely auto parts and plug in their OBD2 scanner. The plug in is on the right side of the steering column under the dash and it will tell you the problem. Chuck
THanks, I was under the impression that the fuel system on the 550 has a return line to the fuel tank and that the A/C system was used to cool the unused fuel that had run through the fuel rails before it went to the fuel tank. That the 550 fuel pump did not have a regulator and as such when the car idled, there was plenty of fuel to return to tank and if it was not cool, the FCS (Fuel Cooling System) sensor went off.
The 550 does have a return type fuel system, and beginning in '99, it was equipped with an FCS (Fuel Cooling System) where the hot return fuel is cooled by a freon heat exchanger. Although the system was implemented in MY99, the only descriptions of it are in the 2000 and 2001 Owner Manual. The exchangers for MY99 are different also, than 00 & 01.
