FDA Approves Inhalable Insulin...?

I did see a news report last night that it was being developed. They showed footage of a misting device.

"While Exubera appears efficacious, concerns have been raised about the safety of inhaled preparations and whether Exubera will compromise lung capacity or damage lung tissue in long-term use. In the clinical trials the frequency and nature of adverse events were similar in the Exubera and control groups. However, mild to moderate cough occurred more frequently in Exubera-treated patients, which disappeared with increased exposure. A small non-progressive difference in pulmonary function tests, but without clinical manifestation, was also observed between a limited group of Exubera and control patients. Additional studies are being conducted to address this safety concern and determine Exubera's long-term pulmonary safety profile."

 

Isolet transplants will be the cure for diabetes, it is already in the testing phases in Europe. Results have been very encouraging.

 

Being diabetic, what is a isolet transplant?

 

Islet transplantation requires only a local anesthetic and takes about 60 minutes. The islets are injected into the liver where they secrete insulin directly into the circulatory system to control blood sugars. Bernhard Hering, M.D., an assistant professor of surgery and medicine at the Diabetes Institute for Immunology and Transplantation (DIIT) at the University of Minnesota, heads the islet transplant team.

 

I heard that you don't want to use it if you are a smoker.
