Why wouldn't he have himself listed as a manufacturer? That would bypass every silly regulation out there... even if the car was production; under his supervision, it wouldn't matter.

No money...takes a lot of money, bonds, insurance, etc. to be listed as a manufacturer.

Someone posted a list of cars that were legal to import for show purposes.. Does anyone have that list??? I mean how many Zondas are running around. I dont think Zondas meet federal guidelines but they are on the list of cars that can be brought over for display or show if I recall correctly....

Dont get your car taken in Utah...Us Marshals Auctions... http://www.salesandauction.com/jan710.htm

Wow, there's a Fiat Barchetta and a Mazda AZ1 on that list! And they don't say export - wonder what the stories are on all those cars.

Would love to have that AZ1

I have a feeling that that Cizeta belongs to (or at least did at one time) this guy

    http://www.icsyachting.com/en/isc-material-details.php?id=73

Check out the paragraph headed, Why not the Veyron?

Thats terrible news about the Cizeta, as its the only one to ever surface frequently, it will now undoutedly disappear under the radar like the rest!! :(

This is the current list of vehicles that are either eligible or have been denied an application for Show or Display:

    http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/CARS/RULES/IMPORT/sdlist040109.pdf

Zondas are definitely not on the list and I don't see how any of the ones that are here in the USA could have been legally imported. There is a yellow one in SoCal that has been here for several years and surely would have exceeded any kind of temporary import status it might have once received. There must be a lot of ways to game the system though. I frequently see cars that don't belong here and wonder how it was done.

Oh ok i just assumed as the article said his car was in USA. Well you now have a new ending for your book. (im not sure how one expresses irony in type!)

Somewhat tragic ending. Then again, in all the research I've found (much of it in the last 18 months), Claudio has burned a ton of bridges. And no, I had *no* idea that the Cizeta was here illegally.

Many foreign nationals are put on their consulate's pay roll for a small sum. Does not give them blanket immunity, but gets them a few tax and vehicle loop holes.

A little more detail on the seizure:

Brain - do you know if this car was in good condition when it arrived in the USA? The documents did specify maintenance and repairs. Maybe sheer depreciation could have been the reason for the low value estimate at the time of import, but perhaps the car had been damaged from an accident? Again, probably questions for Claudio himself, but I was hoping you might also know.

My guess is someone pissed someone off and turned him in.. If there was really a concern over this car it wouldnt have taken them that long to catch on... But then again it did take 5 days to get water to the superdome....

So the gov is spending untold amounts of time and money to deport a single illegal CAR, when around them are millions of illegal PEOPLE. Seems about right.

This is how screwed up our government is. Feel free to correct me if I get this incorrect. If you are a foreigner and you get transferred to this country legally, you can bring your car with you into the country. Alfa, Marcos, Citroen etc. The only stipulation is that you can't sell it here. It gets registered here too. So all of these cars that can't be owned by US citizens, because they are a hazard, can be driven on our road by foreigners. So much for the safety issue.

Not quite - you can use it (IIRC) for a limited time, like one year, and then it must be exported. For example, even overseas U.S. citizens can bring back a car (i.e. if they were residing in another country for x# of years) but can only keep it here for up to 1 year, then it must be exported.

Didn't you hear Obama said C02 is dangerous ?

Two 308 engines would produce lots of C02 and it certainly looks dangerous

I think we'd be a lot safer if all the politicians stop breathing and putting out so much dangerous C02
