You'd have to establish that it was here illegally, then you'd have to interest the feds in seizing it by making them smell dollars or publicity.

They don't enforce the law just on principle, ya know!

Exactly, a bunch of BS. They are just trying to make money from the situation. Its been in the country, why now is it being seized? Government needs money, especially in California.

If they seize this, all classic cars should be seized as well because they are MORE dangerous to the public. I recently saw a crash test comparing an original Bel Air vs an early 2000's Monte Carlo or something, and the Bel Air just destroyed the dummies. The new econojunk car, the dummies were just fine. This Cizeta was engineered to be much safer, thats for sure.

This is the kind of thing that will start to eat at the foundation of our Republic. These unconstitutional laws and agencies EPA, DOT etc. are corrosive to the stability of the country.

Agree completely. Case in point, last year I was moving back to the US from Belgium (where I had been stationed with the military for the last six years). I went to ship my US Spec Ford Expedition which I had purchased, had titled and registered in the US BACK to the US and was told by the EPA that I could not do it. I had to jump through a whole bunch of hoops and wasted enormous amounts of time trying to prove that my car WAS in fact entitled to RETURN to the US. I was extremely livid when the EPA told me that.

I think its going to be a while on this. The Feds seized a McLaren F1 under similar circumstances and held it for 4-5 years while everything got sorted out. Of course in that instance, they were also attempting to prosecute the owner in relation to the illegal importation of the car. We should all hope this case doesn't take a similar turn.

Why did you involve the EPA to begin with? You didn't really have to do any such thing. EPA has nothing to do with importation of motor vehicles. Some retard ignorant bureacrat victimized you. All you had to do was contact a shipping company and arrange for it to be shipped to the US and pay. Upon the vehicle's arrival in the US, all you had to do was produce your US title, and you would be good to go. I have done it dozens of times. EPA had nothing to do with it, ever.

To clarify, I meant to write that the EPA has no involvement the the importation of vehicles manufactured for sale in the US, and compliant with all regulations at the time of manufacture. You only deal with the shipper and customs, unless there are problems.

The only shipper that was available to me required that the car meet EPA standards and somehow since my car did not have that sticker, even with my US title, insurance, etc... they would not ship it BACK to the US.

I'd love to know too but suspect it will be a while before we hear more.

Another important car seized under similar circumstances was held by the Feds in a warehouse for almost 5 years before the matter was finally resolved through the legal process. In the end it had to be exported which is likely the outcome for this Cizeta.
