Took the 308 to a car show in Payson, AZ yesterday. Not to win anything because its mostly an old American Iron show, but because its a nice 65 mile one way drive and then back thru twisty mountain roads. Towards the end of the show, a young girl, maybe 18 YO +/- came up and saw the car and said OMG, a Ferrari 308!. My favorite car ever! She was bonkers over it, asked if she could take pics (yes). Her mother was with her, and while she was taking pics mother said she had a Toyota Celica she worked on. I asked if she was a gear head and she said yes, she changes the oil and spark plugs and does things to make it faster. So, I asked the young girl if she would like to sit in the drivers seat. Her eyes got big as saucers and said yes immediately, so i showed her how the outside latch works and she got in and I said to give her mother her phone so she could take pics. She was absolutely beaming. After the pic session I told the girl, now you have to figure out how to open the door to get out. She started looking around, and checking the door panel, console, dash, and I said see the window switches? feel under neath, there is cavity, reach up, and find the lever at the front and pull it back, which she immediately found and got out. She was ecstatic. It made her day and it made mine. As a side note, I watched her jump in the car and jump out like it was effortless. Kind if like it was for me, 40 years ago. I miss those days. Next time you see her, tell her to Google, Ferrari Master Mechanic Georgina Slack. The first hit you get should be, Ferrari Technician Wins ‘Inspiring Automotive Women Trailblazer Award’ https://teamspeed.com/articles/ferrari-technician-inspiring-automotive-women-trailblazer-award/
Speaking from the other perspective I went to our monthly cars n coffee here in southern Vt yesterday and as I pulled in there was a nero 308 sitting there which just made my day or more like week. I parked right next to it and chatted with the owner and all through the show I kept getting pulled back to it. The owner actually made the comment to me boy I know who to get in touch with if I ever want to sell!
We're members of the local vintage car club, mostly American Iron but a sprinkling of Euro and Japanese stuff. We have a show about once a month in the Santa Fe Plaza and I often take the 308. My biggest kick is letting the 6-10 year olds in to sit in the car. Yes, saucer shaped eyes!! (always "just don't touch anything")
I love the look on young people's faces when they see the 308. Maybe that will change as the C8 Corvette becomes more common, but even then the 308 is such a rare and delicate thing of beauty (sorry C8) it makes me feel almost obligated to take it out....like how dare I hide away this beautiful thing that I've been so blessed to become the caretaker of?
Lovely story. I always get a laugh watching children and teens getting in and out of my Lambo or Ferrari. Makes you feel really old really quick
