Wife offered a suggestion to get more of a sporty daily driver in place of the Merak SS (driven, but not a errand/grocery getter or inclement weather vehicle. Mostly runs up in the canyons, etc).

Not sure that I am fully onBoard with this, but wanted to place a feeler post out there (which is why I've not posted an advertisement for Sale).

kINDA LIKE 308'S IMO...You see needy SS's in the high teens-low $20's, drivers in the $20's - $30, and really nice ones in the $30 - high $30's I believe. Looking to confirm my expectations.

My car. 1979 Merak SS, 45k miles. Bare metal resto + interior. Timing chains replaced with new version (lifetime). Needs nothing. Runs and sounds great like a Maserati should).

SIGNED BY THE DESIGNER GIORGIO GIUGIARO (on the inside of the glovebox door).

    Objective, positive comments welcome.

Great color, very similar to my 355 GTB in Hyperion Blue.

To your question, you car should bring top of the market for a Merak for sure...first number should be a "3" but its a fickle market from there!

    I say keep it :)

Very nice car, very well maintained and very unique.

Can you please tell us how it got to be signed by Giugiaro? I think most of us love a good story...

I've been looking for a nice SS for awhile and this seems to fit the bill.

Can I please call you to discuss? Thanks.

I am not a dealer, never have been, just another Maser crazed car guy (with a manual Khamsin). I don't envision ever selling the Merak I buy, but I'll take it to car shows, etc.

The "story" is unfortunately not mine... its that of the prior owner. He was a design engineer for GM in Michigan, and Giugiaro was visiting the design center. They arranged a meet/greet (with full translation for Giugiaro in Italian) and the viewing/signing took place.

It is WAY COOL to have a car signed by him.

wow impressive! thanks for sharing the details with us, there are lots of people in this forum, who are interested in the Merak, I'm sure they'll appreciate the information.

I'm glad the car is in the right hands.

    PS:
please do register the car with the Merak Registry, it would be great to have it recorded there (no personal information please, just a VIN and a photo is enough).

i sold my 79 ss years ago. it was all original and nearly as new condition. i regret selling it as it was tough to duplicate and was drop dead gorgeous. few cars are as pretty as a merak. they are a bit on the slow side in traffic but do come alive at high revs. they really wake up and sound fantastic.

i regret selling mine...you may regret it too. good luck in any case.

    best,
