Was out on the town with the wife last night, when we got off the highway and in traffic, the car almost stalled when I ''declutched'' ... felt like it was running out of power, at higher RPM it seemed fine and stop idle was also fine, but lord and behold 5 mins later it just completely stalled on a ''declutch'', embarrassing... more embarrassing is that it would not start back up! Seems it just wasn't firing up, stunk of gas and healthy amount of smoke was coming from back. Quite a spectacle for the hundreds (maybe 30) of onlookers. While my wife was trying to bury herself under the dashboard, a couple of good samaritans pushed us on the side where there was room to park, of course there was, I was right in front of the Vogue Hotel! (at least when the car acts up, it does it in style!) I let the car sit for about 5 mins (great photo opp) Then I cranked her up, for the first 30 secs, nothing, then she slooowly starting firing up again to full capacity. The next 5 mins to the parking lot, I just kept revving much higher then normal to declutch,(not so good for the clutch, but oh well) but you could tell stall was not far away. Parked it, ENJOYED the sights and sounds of downtown a few hours. Going home, seemed to word better, engine being cooler, when we got home, you could tell it was starting up again... Soooo here's what I know:
1- last 2 months, when I start the car cold, after 3 secs It fires up gradually, to full cylinders after 20 secs.
2- in the last month, when car is hot it can be restarted within 5 mins of shutdown, after that, it seems to flood, does'nt fire up for a good 30 secs, smells of gas and so on...
3- Will I make it to/back to the FCA supper tonight?
    Hummmmm.

Made it to supper and back!
It really feels like she runs well cool, didn't really have any issues last night. On way there, I did stop the car and had trouble restarting. I then disconnected the cold start connector : www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=287459 and then it gradually started up. Hum... could it be it is sending fuel at the wrong time? I'll do more testing (read heavy driving) today!

I'm glad to report: the car is now running fine! (with the cold start unplugged) What and how is the cold start valve controlled?

The 3x8 injected cars all have the same circuitry. If the water tank thermostat indicates a cold condition, a voltage is sent to the thermo-time switch which sends voltage to the cold start injector. The t-t switch is supposed to time out limiting injection to a few seconds (3-10).

I had to replace my t-t switch (TRutlands $100) when I had warm start issues. It is located in the valley toward the front bank behind the oil filter about 10" to the right IIRC. Replacement can be done without removing the plenum but it requires crows-foot wrench and someone holding a flashlight.

Through the years 1980-1989 the exact wiring varies (some include a relay) but the function in all is the same, i.e. the thermo-time switch should limit the cold injection time.
