Can not quite describe the feeliing but its like something is missing. All good things come to an end. At least she gets to go to a warm climate in her later life. Great car. Never let me down. Never dissapointed.

Attached is #20405 leaving my driveway for the last time and a little
momento I had made up to remind me of all the good times past sitting comfortably reclined in black leather and looking down at that MOMO wheel as the 3.0L V-8 shrieked in my ear.

My new 997S is a helluva car but it will NEVER have the soul OF A FERRARI.

Will I come back to Ferrari. I sure hope so. Can you buy garage stretchers
    and/or time expanders on E-bay????

Sad day for sure. But the framed wheel/nose badge & shift knob is the PERFECT memento.

The first day ( the day I lost my storage garage) was the worst day.
That was a day full of tears and stomach aches. However, I had FIRMLY decided when I was displaced 9 years ago that the next time would be the end of the road. I sold my M-3, bought the Porsche, and made a pact with myself there would be no turning back in all of 2 days.

The car ultimately wound up with someone who 'gets it".Never wanted to succumb to e-bay and all its trappings. I can deal with this but at the moment I feel a bit 'empty".

My 84 QV got picked up yesterday by her new owner as well. Watching the door go up on the trailer with her strapped to the cold hard floor of a strange place was rather disconcerting. The gentleman who was signing on for the next stage of her life assured me he would take the best care possible of her and even promised to keep her named "Isabelle", but still was a tough walk back up the driveway to the empty berth next the BB....:(

Sad indeed. Looked like a nice car. But, old Ferraris never die, they just fade away.

    Congrats on the Porsche.

    Alright DMAX,
That post just about broke my heart. Guess I won't sit by the phone waiting for you to call any longer.

    Jerry,
Glad to hear you found a good buyer and sorry you had to sell your baby. I would have sold the Porsche though!

But I have to ask....did the Ferrari leave your possession without her original steering wheel and shifter knob, or did you buy a spare for your frame?

Birdman...those were the originals on the car when I got it in 1983.

The steering wheel was replaced with a brand new OEM ( the chip on the spoke drove me nuts)that I found a few years ago by sheer luck. The nose badge was replaced on the car when I had some detailing done and the shift knob was my original. All these items were replaced on the car with OEM parts.

I left the original horn button on the car and bought a correct one from Serio at T. Rutlands he had at home. Did not care if it worked because it was not going into the car. It had to be silicone glued in because it sits inside the steering column as the wheel goes over the hub. I found a proper bolt size that mimiced the shifter top so the shift knob could be screwed on through the felt backing.

The plaque was done by a sign shop that does work for LFSC and he had the Ferrari artwork on his computer. We scanned the 308 and GTB logos from my owners manual.

I thought it came out great. Pictures do not do it justice.

If it was a decision to sell the P or the 308, the decision would be different.
This was a Downsize/uncomplicate life decision. The 308 and M-3 went and the P car became my semi everyday car along with a MINI. Wife has an A-6.

Sorry Reid. It was wierd, no one serious looked at her for 6 months and then three of you were interested within two weeks of each other. Good Luck in your search. Did you get the BB exhaust smell out of your clothes? :)

    Jerry,
Good to know. It would be a heartbreaker to seperate the old girl from her original steering wheel otherwise.

I have done a fair amount of improvements to my 308 to make her more driveable and modern, but everything that comes off the car stays with her, even if its in a box.

My car was as OEM as sanity permitted. Some items need to be re-freshed over the years but only as OEM parts became available. Never chased down a correct hard brass 308 sign so I left the original in place even though the white lettering lining had gotten a bit sooty over the years. Could not bring myself to replace it with a later car version with the thicker white indentations that were not correct to the 77 vintage.

The NOS MOMO steering wheel was my "big find". Looked for one of thsoe for 18 years till I scored it.

Which one of the 308 signs is supposed to be hard brass?

I have always loved the 308 GTB. That is one beautiful car. I hope to some day get into a 308. Stuck in Porsches at this minute. I may love my 928, but the car's engine does not produce that infamous shriek of a Ferrari :)

Dang Jerry, sorry to hear about the sale. WOW 24 years, that is a wonderful time with a Ferrari. I'm sure the car will be happy in it's new home, but I'm sure you are going through some withdrawls! Sweet plaque too!

The ironic part is that is one of the most beautiful pics of a 308GTB I have seen; and it's a pic of it leaving your driveway! But, like you said, at least it's going to a home who "gets it".

    You'll be back!

So you had the ferrari for 24 years. Just out of curiosity, how long have you been married? :)

Sorry to hear about your loss.
For me, they'll have to pry the GTB keys out of my cold, dead fingers.

married 32 years. Wife is a total "keeper". She also totally tolerates my car craziness.

I was hoping my son would take the 308 keeping her in the family but the timing was just not right. I would have even financed the deal at 21% compounded. After all, he is family. LOL

Your tag is on the way back home.......along with some swag from the Racing Department.....

I forgot the windshield ticker, it's on my tool box....does it have any value?
I could mail it back also......thanks for the loan of the tag..

I suppose I could have done a little travel log thing here.......LOL!

Partying with the college kids in Lawrence KS.......

Day 1....Leaving Chicago in the only clean car on the road, heater warming the cabin nicely, I settle into the seat..

[email protected] mirror fell from setting, have to fix that at the first coffee stop, and grab some road tunes........

Out with the tool roll.....take care of that.....down some Alka Seltzer for my headache and find some Dwight Yaokum and Dixie Chicks from the Truck Stop case........

    Jerry.

I thought you'd be pleased to know your car was on honored display on the Floor of the Houston Astrodome Sunday morning as a part of the Run for the Rose Cancer Charity event....

Alongside newer Ferraris the old girl looked pretty good and drew quite a crowd from the 5K Run/Walk participants......

After the display broke up, she was invited to join the 500 motorcyle enthiusiasts that had gathered for a Fun Run out to a Crawfish Boil in neighboring Baytown, so of course the Ferrari guy donned an Honorary Biker Do-Rag and fell in with a Police escorted convoy of hundreds and hundreds of bikes, hit the highway ....and

    "opened her up"............

You could just make out a tiny little handprint, smudged on the rear fender flank, in the Speed Shine....LOL!

So at least ONE little enthusiast made it under the perimeter cordon, for a closer look!!!

And the Bikers were really enthusiastic as well, many pictures taken at the Crawfish Boil.........sadly, I had to leave before the wet T-shirt contest..

No pics yet I'll post some as they turn up.......
