Katherine Legge made a bit of history after winning the Long beach race. http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/champcar/16155/ Did I mention she is attractive and British, don't forget can drive well too.
Yep. I watched that race on tv. I enjoyed it. Also, good for her, although fortune may have been on her side once or twice. And, I thought she was attractive.
I'm happy for her. In the IndyCar Series look out for Donica Patrick. Very attractive and she's a great driver. http://www.indycar.com/drivers/driver.php?driver=259
attractive, yes, great driver, maybe. In her career in Atlantics, she never scored a win. Katherine did it in her first start, and with some work involved.. Hopefully Danica will get the eventual win. Hopefully it will be in a champcar as well.
Does anyone know what's happend to Milka Duno? She'd raced at LeMans back in 2002 in the Panoz. Women can be just as fast as men in a car. Just ask anyone who was competing against Michelle Mouton in the WRC. Also when I was racing Karts there were quite a few girls who where quicker than the guys. When you put on the helmet and suit and strap in you can't tell who's a guy and who's a girl. The stopwatch doesn't care. Here's a pic of Milka from the 2002 LeMans: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Saw that Milka raced at Fontana in the Rolex series just the other week or so. Paired up with Andy Wallace, if I recall correctly.
Several years ago she was at a Skip Barber school I attended at Road America. She was just starting out, and with her backing she had her own private instructors. The staff loved her because she would usually change out in the open.
I think if the biggest thing against the female drivers is the amount of physical strength it takes to drive a champcar or indycar. Most of these ladies are pretty small. That being said they will have no problem getting rides as they are very marketable.
I would agree, but there are quite a few ladies who are kicking butt in rally races across the world and that is a quite a bit more physically demanding.
Not a big fan of D. Patrick. Didn't like her response to Dave Despain when asked who her Heros were; Janet Guthrie included, and the response was " Just how old do you think I am ? ". Rule # 1 for aspiring drivers; try not to piss off/ embarass people promoting your career on national TV. Did some nice semi nude stuff on the other hand where she has the up-and-up on Tony Kannan Etc.
Danica definitely better. Katherine is racing against a way less competitive field. Alot of the drivers this year in Atlantics are nothing special. Danica has beaten some of the best. I would put Katherine in the same class as Sarah Fischer.
Yeah, as much as I can't stand Danicas "I'm tougher than the guys out here" public demeanor, she is fast, and aggressive. She should just let her on track abilities speak for her. I think it was last year in Mexico she out braked and parked it on the apex pushing high and snatching a position off Ronnie Bremmer and he's no slouch. Probably the pass of the season. She probably would have won at Portland from Pole if she wasn't taken out by Figge in turn 1 of the second race. Legge, hmm, jury still out on her, but Kalkoven sure is a believer right now. Daziel, I think your ticket just expired.
From what I have heard Danica Patrick isn't so stuck up in real life. The whole *****iness is a marketing scheme. Of course I could be wrong. And rallying may not have that many g forces and power steering, but you are putting your body through a lot of stress during the stages. There have been a lot of successful female drivers in extreme endurance races like the Baha and the Paris Dakar.
I agree, but the initial G load is higher in F1, champcar, etc. where as in rallying it is less at first but sustained for a longer period of time. You have to be pretty physically strong to take a 4 G load 60 times a lap even if it is for under a second that you're subjected to it. I know rallying is demenading as well but in a different way. There is probably why women are more successful in rallying than open wheel. It's the difference between trying to bench press 300 lbs once or 100lbs 10 times.
I actually think she was bigger than all but a few of her male competitors. Guthrie, St. James, McCluggage, Mouton, et al have shown there is a place for women in the sport. There just isn't a lot of support or encouragement at the entry level still. Here's a few pics I shot at Long Beach. Here's a picture of our very own Greg Owen's at Daytona this year with Milka. Image Unavailable, Please Login
John...I'm still waiting for my own copies of those pics!!! ;-) For the other F-chatters, Milka used to own a 355C that a good friend of mine, Paul P., purchased after she wrecked it at Road America. She and I had a good chat about it that afternoon!
