Hello everyone. What do people think about shields on a 512 BB? IS Yoshields USA still in business? Who makes the best stick on metal shields? thanks much. JWW
That being the case I can suggest some other enhancements to complete the package. Forgive me but to me the shields belong on factory race cars, 288's F40's etc. I do not consider them complimentary to most of the street cars anymore than putting a Toyota Racing sticker on an MR2.
what please you understand under "fender shield"? when I translate this it makes no sense, because a fender shield is on a bicycle thank you for giving me more knowledge
Yeah, I agree. I don't get the addiction to the shields and I'm always amazed how many people pay extra money to add them on to their cars. I don't think I have ever seen one on a Boxer.
if such a shield then it has to be mounted so that the surface should be even with the rest of the fender, and not only put on the fender
Well, aesthetically yes, historically no: shields, whose real italian name is scudetto (singular) or scudetti (plural) came from the race cars. For most of Ferrari history, shields on the race cars were only it the simplest of stickers, just glued on the skin of the car. (And as written already many times, they were offered for the first time by the factory as an option on a road car with the "serie speciale" of the 355 spider at the end of 1998, then became standard factory option on all road cars with the 360. From a purely historical point of view, they could not be "factory standard" before 1998; but some people like them, and to each his own...) Rgds
Nope. Ferrari Attorneys shut down Yoshi. His shields are by far the best aftermarket that ever were available. I have one set on my 98 F1 GTS and I have a spare set - no plans to install them on my 95 Berlinetta as I'm going for full stock but I will probably just keep them. Work of art.
No, No, No - Of you're gonna go with the tacked-on aesthetic to tell everyone that it's probably not a Fiero, do it right: screw them directly onto the fender with some sheetrock screws, add some plumbing caulk to give it that proper "factory finish" look. For the ambitious aftermarket aficionado, blue neon is readily available at Pep Boys for the wheelwells.
Of course Brian, but those cars were intended to be raced, or to be tracked...well, at least "somewhat", in "someway"; which gave them a link to the "Scuderia" (stable) and to the "Scudetti". On a road car, they were available at the end of 1998 with the serie speciale of the 355 spider. Rgds
I would disagree. They were intended to make the company a lot of money. The class the 288 was to go after was dead before the car came to fruition. And by applying the same logic many Ferrari road models were raced by the factory and privateers throughout the company history and were intended to from the very start yet the street cars were never offered with the badges the race cars had. The Super Cars had badges as a gimmick and a very profitable gimmick it was. As soon as the 288 hit the streets we had clients wanting the badges applied to their cars. Ferrari instituted a policy of requiring all parts orders for 288 part to be accompanied by a VIN in an attempt to limit such actions. They saw the business opportunity and started offering it as a factory option in response. In the opinion of many of us it was just one more small step in the cheapening of the brand and the dilution of the history and traditions of the brand.
Well, you're right of course, but nevertheless... The factory did put the shields in 1993 on a special serie of 100 (?) 348s intended for track use only, which tend to prove that they linked scudettis and tracking "somewhat"... Rgds
OK So...given all that, Ive decided to add three shields: one on each fender, and one in the cabin glued to the dash leather so you can see it through the windshield. Interesting 365 bb blue interior. BTW. Horsie on the rear grille? JWW Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
So much sadly wasted space. There could be soooooo many more. Maybe another on the roof, a couple more on the buttresses, even a "Screming Cavallino" across the bland swath of paint in front of the windshield, a la Trans Am. Maybe gold-plate the spinners, too. It would be glorious, GLORIOUS, I tellz ya! We shall call it The BiancoGuido
