One of my shields got a rather large chip in it and it needs to be replaced how difficult are they to get off. I would assume the whole fender needs to come off. I have seen some for sale with 3m backing. I can't imagine an OEM shield just sticks on inside the recess. How do I get them off?

OEM is held on with three nuts. They can be reached via removal of the wheel well.

They are kind of a pain to remove. In addition to the three bolts holding them on, the are also glued to the paint. So you have to use a heat gun to heat the glue up to be able to remove them without damaging the paint.

Do you have to remove the entire wheel well liner to access them? One of mine is starting to lift a hair.

It is best to do so. I just let it drop down and sit atop the rotor and hub. This leaves enough room to get your hands and arm into the fender

Has anyone removed the shields on a 612? I removed the wheel arch liner and found my arms and hands were too big and too short to fit in to reach. And no I don't have short thick arms! I am 6'2" and 190lbs.

Any handy advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am going to have another go at removing my shields to swap for carbon fibre ones. Anybody got any tips as the last attempt was futile do to inaccessibility? What size nuts are they? Thanks in advance.
