Im looking at investing in a Ferarri F355, convertable or not (havent decided yet) but being a fairly tall guy (6ft4") I am just wondering how is the leg room and head room in the F355? It's not like there's one parked down the street so I can test fit, just wondering if anyone can provide some feedback regarding how a tall guy would fit in the glorious Ferarri F355.

I have been searching for a Ferarri for ages which not only did I like in looks, but also performance. The F355 fits the bill perfectly, now my only concern is if I can fit! The showroom is a plane trip away so I really need some idea before I go check one out.

    Thanks in advance.

    Joe

I'm 5'10 and a big guy and it feels ok for me, just right, at 6'4 it might be a tiny bit too small for you....why don't you consider going for a 360 Modena or a 550 Maranello (You can get pretty good deals on some 550s right now).....just a thought...in the mean time enjoy the pics.

Joe since you are 6'4'',there is not much Leg Room even with the Seat all the way back. There is a bit more Head Room in a B, than a Spider (top up obviously). I have never driven a Targa, but i assume it is the same as a Berlinetta. The 360 is a lot roomier FYI. I prefer the 355 though.

Also if you have Big Feet (not a Bad thing), shifting a Manual is going to be Tuff.

At 6ft 225lbs there isn't much spare room in my 355 spider for me. 6'4" is going to be a tight fit especially if you have a large build. The great thing about a 355 is that it is a small car, the bad thing is that it's a small car...
    Good luck with the search.

I am 6'3 and weigh 105kl I fit quite comfortably in my 355 gts I am not sure whether the spider is exactly the same size inside I tend to like a more laid back seat so am quite comfy. Getting in and out is an art but have perfected hand on sill exiting and bum in first entry so i don't rub side bolster on seat. Best thing would be to wait til you can get to a dealer and have a sit. Steering wheel from memory moves in and out as well as up and down, I think as I may be confusing with the 360 I used to own. By the way 360's have plenty of room.

    Joe,

I'm a 6 footer, 185 lbs, but the big problem I confronted was size of my feet -- size 13. In a manual 355 the peddles are offset and jammed together. Very tight and uncomfortable for me, in contrast, for example to my BMW M5 manual. So I got a 355 F1 and w/o the clutch had enough room for my feet and just enough for my body because I like the seat back. I now have a 360 F1 which has all the space I want -- for feet and body -- and then some. I therefore concur with a prior post that a 360 would probably work for you much better. And btw, the 360 rocks being about 200lbs lighter, and with power coming on much stronger earlier on the torque curve than the 355.

    Good luck, Paul

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated! Great pictures by the way, I'm jealous.

The reason I decided on the F355 because for my personal tastes it looks the best and is well within my budget. I can't justify the price of the 360 Modena or 550 Maranello at this stage being double, some cases triple the cost of the F355 here in Australia especially considering I prefer the F355 but if I dont fit then a helluva lotta good that does! The 550 Maranello does look awesome, but I can only find one for sale at the moment and it's $285,000AU. I have found a 360 at about the same price here aswell which is exactly DOUBLE the price of some F355's I've seen for sale.

As for manual shifting if I was to get one, hopefully I can find one with the F1 style transmission as you did Paul so that would'nt be an issue as I'd have the same problem as you did regarding that.

Is the 355 GTS the targa top version? I perfer to be laid back when I drive aswell so maybe all is not lost for me and the amazing 355! With the 360 having LOTS more room though, should I really look at spending TWICE the amount just for that? I was heading towards the 360 in the first place, until I saw the 355 which was in my opinion nicer styling and a nicer price aswell!

Obviously I wont know for sure until I test fit in person, but the showroom is a good 500 miles away so I want at least an idea at what Im looking for before I go there.

Seems to me my choices are the 355 slightly cramped, great price and personally my favourite to look at versus the 360 with heaps of room but massively priced. Choices, choices :(

    Hi

I am in the market for an F355 as well and I am located in Australia. I am 5'11 and 140kilos and the car is a very tight fit width wise for me. Good luck on your Ferrari hunting and I hope you don't scoop the car I am currently looking at!

As for my height it is ok, as for my weight I am prepared to lose weight to fit into my Ferrari!!!

    regards,

    Richard

if your 6 feet 4, then there will be no chance for you to get an 6-speed. your right leg (left leg for you in oz) will bump the shift knob as you will have to sit bow legged to get your legs properly under the steering wheel. there is just enough head room, so this should not be a big problem. i to am 6 feet 4 and i was forced to by the f-1 for this same reason. the 360 is much more roomy for tall chaps, but the sweet sound of the 355 makes up for the modest discomfort. cheers, kelly

SAT355, I'm about 125kg so hopefully I should tuck in nicely. I think there's no worries that I'm after the same car you are. I haven't found one exactly to my specs yet, a couple close but not quite...

Thanks for sharing that big kahuna. With the steering wheel adjustability were you able to get it positioned perfectly for your height? When you say sitting bow legged, I get this awful image of what I look like driving my womans Nissan Pulsar lol As for transmission I have specified for the F1 anyway. The way I see it, how could you NOT get the F1 transmission? heh...

Considering I really like the 355 much more than the 360 (something about popup headlights, more traditional to ferrari...shoot me) and that it's more than half the price of the 360 I really cant go past the 355. I am thinking about the 355 GTS in red of course, with black/tan interior.

The full model name would be Ferrari 355 GTS F1? Is this correct? Just making sure so I know exactly what model name I'm hunting down. Thanks!

I am 6' 1" and my 355 is OK on leg room but I could do with more height if you can afford to go to the 360 I would recommend you do that.

I am 6'3 265 and fit in my 355 Spider just fine. My knee does not interupt my ability to shift the only complint I have is that I have to wear the right shoes so that I can feel the pedals.

Depends on where your height comes from. Long in leg, or long in torso? The only way to tell for sure is to sit in one, and hopefully drive one to get a sense for headroom and your ability to manipulate the shifter and peddles. Agree with the comment about foot size, the peddles are close. I end up taking my shoes off (size 13ee US) to drive.

You gotta have another pair of shoes in the car though.... wouldnt want to step out wearing goofy driving shoes!!!! I guess that wrestling shoes would work too.....

Joe, that question was one of my first posts also!
I am 6'3" and 205 and found I could get an adequate fit in the 355 but only with the racing shells. The standard seats hit me uncomfortably in the shoulder blades and make good seating posture impossible.
I can tell you for sure, the 360 interior is much more spacious and comfortable all else aside.
Better find a car to drive before going too far with any plans.

True for the more formal situations you could carry a spare pair, I find that when I go out to drive the car I am not too worried about the image thing I rarley get out the car on those trips and find thats when I get the real advantage of the driving shoes and the Speed Cats are low cut its hard to tell that they are not just sneakers.

    You have 3 options for a 355.
    355 Berlinetta = Hardtop.
355 GTS = Targa or Removeable Top.
355 Spider = Ragtop or Convertible.
    F1 = Auto, Paddle Shifters, No 3rd Pedal.The earlier Models, 95-97 offered a Manual 6 speed only.

1 more item of info : 355s do not have a "Telescopic" Column. You can adjust the Steering Wheel Up & Down, but not In & Out.
The 360 is a Superior performing Ferrari, but is not worth Twice the Price. In the States, they are approx 50% more depending on Year.

My dad went up to our local dealer to drive one that he was seriously interested in... he's 6', 190. He does sit back pretty far for a guy his size, but still, not as much as you would. He didn't fit... couldn't get confortable. It was the deal breaker!

Do Ferrari make racing shell seats? I honestly couldn't put in another brand seat apart from Ferrari, it wouldn't feel right to me personally.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I could buy 2 x 355's for the price of 1 360 here in Australia. I really cant justify that, especially considering I like the 355 better. That's a bummer about the telescopic column, that would've fixed alot of the problems with people fitting.

Depressing! I'm going to have to bite the bullet and wing it and go see one, and if I dont fit then I'll just cry haha. I love the 355 too much, if I dont fit I really dont see myself getting a 360. Sure it's hot and all, but doesn't read Ferrari like the 355 does to me personally.

I am 6'4", 275 lbs, football player build and I just bought a 97 355 spider. I test drove it, and even though it wasn't very spacious inside it was totally doable. Not sure If I could ride 10hrs straight in it which I really do not intend on doing anyway! I have size 13 shoes and yes you have to wear the right narrower shoes (Puma speedcats are great - I ordered a pair in black/white) to make shifting less of a pain as the big shoes get in the way of the pedals!
Remember, it is a Sports Car, not a family sedan. If I want more room, I'll just take the benz!
My car is still in the shop awaiting the headers and capristo with test pipes install and should hopefully be ready by the weekend...
360 does have tons of more legroom though! I could totally stretch out my legs in that one....

    good luck

Thanks for sharing that GordonF355, maybe there is hope for me yet. I'm literally the same build as you, height/weight wise and from what I've been told the Spider's interior is slightly smaller than the GTS model which I'm looking for. To beat the pedal space I'll definately be getting an F1, although I wanted this transmission anyway because I imagine it would be so awesome to have such power literally under your finger-tips and for a few extra dollars I couldnt pass up that feature.

Now just to find the model I am looking for, Ferrari 355 GTS F1... There's not many in the country at all, Ive got a few dealers trying to scout one for me. Fingers crossed...
