You can't deny that Alonso is one of the, if not the most talented driver on the grid. However, the HUGE problem I see is his inconsistency. Every driver does make mistakes, but no one's performance does fluctuate so much. He has great days where he drives like the two time WDC he is, and then, like in Hockenheim, he can't even keep up with guys like Vettel in inferior cars. His temperament doesn't help either...

Not sure about that Florian, I tend to think it's more a do or die attitude, which IMO is to be admired when your in a crap car rather than just sitting midpack.

FA started very well in F1 - 2 WDC's speak for themselves.A very quick driver, who drove with commitment and capable of going wheel to wheel with MS.

His "star" has been on the decline for the last 18-24 months and the McLaren saga, coupled with the lack of performance from the '08 Renault aren't helping.

'07 was a bad year for FA - he did his character/personality no end of harm with his approach, such that he is now viewed as damaged goods.Team bosses will be very wary before committing for '09, lest history repeats itself.

Given PQ jr's recent performances there may be more in the Renault than people thought.

That's what brought it to mind. People were awfully quick to write off Renault after the successes they've had.
P.S. I'm having trouble finding an internet feed for the race. Any suggestions? (1kkonen is not delivering).

Thanks. First ITV was blocked to the states and now the website linked to it has become useless. Alas, Speed TV shall have to do. Shame is that I've finally hooked my new TV up to my Macbook and was looking foward to ITV in full screen (and audio) glory. If that's the worst of my worries I'm a lucky man:)

That's the thing. If he just stopped crying and dealt with a fast teammate, he would still be winning races. It makes no sense for someone at that level to exchange a race winning car with some mid pack piece of junk, just because the teammate in that winning team is too quick.

Who knows. Even though McLaren like to run their drivers on equal status, I wouldn't doubt if he felt favoritism within the team. Remember what happened with Prost and Senna.

Even if he did feel that way, was it really worth exchanging wins and a title challenge for a couple points here and there? Granted we all don't know the situation, but I would think that for a top driver at that level, winning is everything.
