First pictures from Paris before the press days. Two cars on the Ferrari booth, one Azzurro, one red. Interesting shot of the trunk, and a darker one on the Pininfarina stand. Enjoy !
jesus ****ing christ is this car a mess.. I mean WTF!!! why couldn't they have made it MORE of a homage to the ACTUAL California that had CURVES and was STUNNING.. this ****ing thing looks like a piece of ****...
I saw the actual car in Singapore last week (launch was a few days before the F1 race) and I thought it looked quite ok. Actual California is irrelevant to making a car that will pass today's regulations. The styling queues are there
I don't think these photos are very representative of the car's design! I think I understand the critique (the rear is...busy) but, having seen one in the flesh, I think it's fair to say it looks a lot better in person. Sometimes there's no substitute for three dimensions.
:S I didn't mind the back in earlier pics but this??? Atrocious... Lets hope it looks better in person.
Actually the shape is growing on me. Like it more with the roof up than down. Going to the Paris show next Friday so will be able to judge it in the flesh for myself.
I've had to warm up to every new Ferrari since the 360 came out. It's sad really, they used to be an object of lust the second I saw the first picture. The new Maserati reminded me what 'insta-lust' is like.
Road and Track: "And photos don't do this car justice we must say, the Ferrari California looks absolutely stunning in person." http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=10&article_id=7132
Nice! @ross:you are a f-owner. You should know that ferrari used that configuration for the exaust in the '60 almost 50yearss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I really hate this car. I don't want to hate it but I do. Maybe it will grow on me but it's disgusting.
Car Magazine said the same thing too. Modern Ferraris all have quite complex surfacing which doesn't show up well in photos. The 599 is the same. I also think that some of their supposedly unattractive modern designs have aged quite well, the 550 and 360 especially. On a counterpoint the Aston DB9 and V8 Vantage both of which I though were really beautiful when launched now seem a touch bland as they have become a regular site on British roads.
Horrendous car. It would've been fine if it didn't have the prancing horse on the hood. Kinda looks like the offspring you'd get if the Lexus IS-F ****ed a Maserati Granturismo. And with talks of a "4 door coupe ala Lambo Estoque", I think Ferrari does not have a very bright future ahead of it in terms of loyalty and uniqueness. I'm sure they'll be making good profits though.
My Maserati takes personal offense at that statement! But regarding the California, does anybody else think it looks better in that last picture with the trunk lid open? Those lines on the lower body are actually kind of nice. Unfortunatley the space needed for the retracting hardtop apparently required that bloated deck lid. Hmmm, I see a mod market for after-market deck lids.
I wasn't sure to start with but the more I see of this car the more I like it. The negative remarks about the styling are just the shock of the new. This car will be a huge hit for Ferrari - just the new technology alone will assure it of greatness (hardtop, gearbox, direct injection). I'm in Paris in a couple of weeks and look forward to seeing it in the metal.
Imo, the steering wheel functions seem so miniscule in comparision to the real F1 wheel!...I sure hope Ferrari adds a few more settings (maybe 2 more?) so there'll be 5 setting modes...Maybe a knob that can be turned and sensors detect airflow which alternately changes the vehicles airflow to maximize the aerodynamics & correlate with the road conditions?...(Ex: moving underbody airfoils or some computerized wing adjustment system? Or maybe add a knob with a simply skull on it that reads "danger"
