They don't need to worry about the design as much as the simple things like making sure the spark plugs are good BEFORE we line up to the grid. It's the crap like that which killed Ferrari last year.

This is without doubt one of the most ugly, horryfying F1 cars Ferrari ever built. Let's face it, the snowplough F1 of 1973/1974 definitely wasn't a cutie, but compared to this dog, it looks like paradise.
This 'sport' is going the totally wrong direction. I had high hopes Ferrari was gonna turn it's back to F1. This has nothing to do with racing anymore.

Enzo has been turning so often in his grave lately, that we don't know anymore which side is up or down.

    This is shameful.

It's cool that the car is totally a product of Maranello of course ...which in itself is no mean feat ,however let's see how it goes before we make our final assessments.

    Forza Ferrari!

I thought the stepped nosed cars were pretty awful looking. Halo will never "grow" on me.

I like the cleverness of the engineering today. But the looks really do make them pretty ugly.

Somehow, beauty and speed are partners. Aesthetics and the nowadays F1 aerodynamic and safety regulations however, are so contradictory that there is simply no fluent line anymore, no design, no shape. These cars may be fast, when driven in 'open' air. Driving close behind another car, makes them slow and f.cks up their aerodynamics. What makes overtaking difficult... Ooh yeah, but there is the fantastic fraud invention of DRS. What a joke.

Nothing overdramatic, man. Pretty cool, just a little sad with the evolution.

Yes, it is not just the Halo, it is the entire section around the cockpit including the sidepods....
The F1 cars looked best when they were slim and simple like the McLaren MP4/4 or the Ferrari 641

Yep and the aero on these cars are never going to translate into real world use. I think from a power unit prospective manufacturers can perhaps learn things but the aero has gone amok. Keep it simple aero wise, and it will improve the show...

    Another downside to HALO

Drivers are trying their best to lose weight to make up for it. But they are already some of the most fit people in the world. The only way to lose more weight is lose muscle mass.

    It's dangerous.

I am curious in this era of F1 how you make a car pretty.
    Everyone complains it ugly.
I love the whole car being red in color
The side mirrors are trick, The side pods are innovative and the front wing is a work of art.
I can only imagine the guys that laid out all the carbon to build that front wing will be crying tears every time Ferrari gets caught up in a mix up at the end of turn 1

From the side, the halo isn't horrible. The way it slopes up in not that bad. From the front or just about any other angle... it's a visual disaster.

I think some people are forgetting that these cars aren't designed to be beautiful, they're designed to compete in the pinnacle of automotive racing.

Good looks, or the lack thereof, is probably pretty far down the engineer's list of "concerns" when building new cars.

You are totally correct. I doubt they even think about the way it looks. Likely the only people at Scuderia that care about that are the marketing team that designs the livery. Having said that, I still think it looks amazing.

I am happy you use the words 'pinnacle of automotive racing. The F1 was that some decades ago. A sport that introduces things as:
    -DRS
-Start bevind Safety Car when it's raining
-extended artificial aerodynamics, which make it impossible to drive really close behind another car.
-regulations about fuel consumption so that drivers actually have to lift their right foot regularly.
-being forced to use 2 different kinds of tyres in 1 race....
    -etc

Well, for me, this has nothing to do with racing.
