Dear All, I have just posted an online video of the Ferrar Breadvan on Youtube. It shows the first 2 laps of the 2hours Gentleman Drivers Race last weekend in Mugello. The Breadvan was driven by Max Werner and Claudia Huertgen and won with a huge lead of 70sec. at the finish. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9Pr3Yhu3nY I hope you all enjoy watching it. All the best, Max Werner
Excellent footage. Congratulations on the victory. How does this car feel/drive/handle compared to a standard 250 swb or GTO? Paul
Dear Paul, the Breadvan drives completly different from any other Gt Car I have ever driven. I cannot tell you how it drives compared to a GTO, because I have not had the chance to drive one yet. But it feels much better than a 250 GT SWB. Actually it is more like a very light sportscar and turning into a corner is a real pleasure. I will be doing some testing this year and I will drive together with Claudia Huertgen in the one hour TT Race at Goodwood Revival this year. We do hope to be competitive with it and beat the Jaguars and Cobras. The Breadvan will be in LeMans for the Classic event as well, but unfortunately it is in the Group together with the GT 40's there. So no real chance of winning anything there. Best, Max
Thanks alot. Inside it is actually so loud now that I had a problem hearing anything the whole Sunday evening. But you are absolutely right. IT IS AMAZING !!!
Thanks for the memories! I have ridden in the Breadvan for a few hot laps while it was still here in Louisiana! Stunning car! Dave
What a great sound!! looks a bit twitchy compared to Bizzarrini's next version the A3C http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxwMiCwJOZw
I wouldn' t call it twitchy. You have to keep in mind that, when the car started about 80 litres of fuel were in the tanks. And in this race series, they only allow L-Section tyres which are half as wide as the M's. So the car had less grip than it could have.
Cool Video. I plan to be at both the classic Le Mans and the Goodwood revival look forward to seeing the breadvan there
That was great! I really enjoyed listening to it, maybe even more than watching it. My favorite part was "Hello little Cobra, good bye little Cobra."
Good point. Now that you mention it I have seen something similar happen a few years ago. When Fisken brought the two Bizzarrini's to Laguna Seca, Steve Earl would not allow him to run Goodyear tires and the A3c's had a similar issue, needless to say they would have won the race on Goodyear's, but it was a tribute to GM that year, so GM was positioned to win. The sound of the Bread van is amazing!!!
Thanks to someone digging up the code in OOT, here's the high-def version of the original video. The sound is MUCH better- dare I say intoxicating! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9Pr3Yhu3nY&fmt=18
I remember when John Houghtaling took me for a few laps around No Problem Raceway in 2819. Monty helped me get in; the doors are so delicate that they were closed with the greatest of care. But once we were on the track, it sounded like this impervious monster that could devour the earth without enduring so much as a single scratch. The dashboard is of metal and my knees touched it the entire ride. The mere thought of an accident gave me more of an appreciation for the ability to walk. After a few laps around the track, I couldn't hear very well for the rest of the day. But even if someone had handed me earplugs, I don't think I would've put them in. I can still hear those laps in my head today. Can this video be downloaded...? Impuls2000, the race that the Breadvan won was a two-hour race...?
Excellent video and racing. I saw the "Breadvan" in 2006 at Techno Classica and in 2007 at Rétromobile. I'm glad that I'll finally see it in action at Le Mans Classic this year. See you there Max!! Best regards -Kevin
Yes the race was a two hour race and I shared the car with BMW works driver Claudia Huertgen ! Even though she mostly drives modern race cars she enjoyed the Breadvan alot. Actually I do not have a downloadable version of the video, but if you google for youtubex you will find instructions how you can download youtube videos. I am glad that you had the chance to enjoy the car as well and maybe I can take you for a ride one day !!! All the best, Max
This is really cool stuff! Thanks for sharing. I remember Claudia as the teammate of Dutch driver Jos Verstappen in Willi Webers German Formula3 team, back in 1993. She had a nasty crash in Monaco. The car flipped and her hand got underneath the rollbar. I didn't know she is a BMW worksdriver these days.
I can only imagine the joy you get from driving la Camionette. It's a car that, from the moment I saw it, had a profound impact on me. I was saddened when I learned that Monty was selling the car - and then even moreso when I learned that the car was going overseas. If you ever bring it to the United States, please let me know. If I ever find myself in Europe, you can count on me posting about it, hoping that the Breadvan will be out in the public during that time.
I was filled with much regret not buying Montys camionette so I settled for a slightly less powerful (18bhp) version. NCB GTE sn#2831 Image Unavailable, Please Login
