I purchased last week a Ferrari 275 GTB 6C and know very little about the car.The chassis and engine number is 8669 and the car was purchased from an estate and has about 14,000 miles from new. It has been driven less than 1000 miles in the past 10 years according to the widow. As I understand it, the factory 6C models were a limited production and apparently I have a long nose late 6C production car. I would like to know a) how may 6Cs were produced in the long nose version; b) is there a difference between 6 and 6C or are all factory cars with 6 carbs, 6C's?; c) how do I find out who intinitially owned the car since the car has been continuously owned since 1971 by the owner (now deceased) I bought it from. Also, this car never had any bumpers. Is that unusual for 6C factory cars?

Generally, the suffix 6C means 6 carbs, and was more or less an option on the second series (or third if one counts the interim drive-shaft model) or long-nose 275GTB. They are fairly rare (someone here probably knows how many) and frequently seen with the alloy body, another option. I doubt that it came with no bumpers.

If you can get the factory build sheet that would give you much useful information. People collect the build sheets so someone may have it already...
Can you share with us the color combination? Thanks

You might also contact Gerald Roush. If it's been in the same ownership since 1971, he may or may not have any info, but it's worth a shot.

    I'm curious (and jealous :))

Why would you buy a car like this that you don't know much about? Was this some kind of a special deal with the family of the deceased owner or is this something that you've always wanted?

Probably about 63 longnose originally supplied with 6 carbs. (from a total of approx 85) Many more subsequent conversions, but yours is original. Strictly speaking the 6 carbs weren't a "special edition" it was just a customer option.

Robert: Congratulations and welcome to the 275gtb world. If you have not seen Cavallino magazine you might want to check it out. Issue #9 has a complete listing of serial numbers of 275gtb's. If you PM me I would be happy to send a photocopy of those pages or answer any questions. I just finished restoring a 275gtb 2 cam last year. You may be able to find some of the history of your car by contacting the Ferrari market letter or Michael Sheehan. They keep data bases. If the car has been sitting for a long time you may want to find a mechanic to check things out.

Thanks. The car was bought and resold in 1971 by Jim Merritt who I understand is or was well known is Ferrari circles. He must have purchased it from someone in Germany.

You may be correct; I need to check where any bumper cut outs would have been welded up. However, I purchased the car with a set of "original" bumpers in original boxes which appear to have never been installed.

Neither. I'm not sure why I bought it except if I didn't somebody else would have quickly and I would have lost the opportunity. I believe if I change my mind I can easily resell it.

He publishes the Ferrari Market Letter-- http://www.ferrarimarketletter.com.

Also a member here-- if you search, you'll find him.

That sounds like exactly the setup to have in a 275-- I'm envious!

From what I understand, they built about 107 long nose torque tube 275gtb's. About 24 of them had an oem 6 carb set up. The long nose cars started at about 8305 and finished with 9021. Cavallino #9 has a complete listing. It sounds like you got a great car that has not been bounced around the world to different owners over the last 40 years. I am sure everyone would love to see some photos of it.

p.s. If you plan on putting a hose to it to wash it, drive it to get the water out. These cars trap water everywhere. Don't wash it and pull it in the garage.....
