Should be light grey with gold cad-plated supports. The gold gearbox was specially done for Ferrari F1 race driver Michele Alboreto.
Not the overall look as this one has the ANSA trumpet exhausts, therefore I wouldn't describe it as "Overall Look". Just my 2 cents, of course. Marcel Massini
By 'overall look' I meant the look of the gearbox in standard trim from a short distance including the rear of the car, but I think you mean the car should have the standard 4-tip exhaust to be factory original, correct, of course. Dear Marcel, thank you for keeping us on top of our game I will search my archives...
Were the transmission and engine numbers in a certain order with chassis numbers? Is there such list?
Thank you Joe, this is what I thought but I was getting confused by so many different examples 58137 was the only one with this factory correct colours at the meeting in fiorano last month Envoyé de mon SM-G800H en utilisant Tapatalk
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the gold gearbox from Alboreto's car was done by the factory some time after delivery though, wasn't it?
Correct, he brought it in for service and it was done then, Franco C at the factory shared the service notes with me.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Interesting facts about the gearbox supports. I never knew they were originally cad plated. To demonstrate how susceptible cad plating is to erosion over time, this photo is of the gearbox and supports on the 288 GTO which was recently auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s at the 70th anniversary celebrations in Maranello. I photographed it while on display at Casa Ferrari at Pebble Beach. The car had less than 729 km on it. https://www.rmsothebys.com/ff17/ferrari--leggenda-e-passione/lots/1985-ferrari-288-gto/1705124
Because the original cad-plating was not done to a high standard, the finish tarnished quickly, and many GTOs have had them painted over. I inspected the 729km car in person, and thought it was good, but not pristine, however that can be remedied.
Correct, I saw this in fiorano when the car was on display before the auction How is It possible that the gear box is full grey if the car is 100% « like New »? Envoyé de mon iPad en utilisant Tapatalk
