Joe: 20 years ago I was at Cammisa Motor Car Company in Burlingame, CA and there was a 288 GTO owned by a wealthy family from Jakarta, Indonesia. (A client of Brandon Lawrence) The car had a yellow strip through the mid section of the car on both sides where you typically see the black stripe on other GTOs. I'll look to see if I have a picture but wanted to know if you knew anything about this car and if any other 288 GTOs came from the factory with a yellow strip instead of black or if this was something done after the car left the factory. Thanks.
This has been discussed several times already. The car is 56209 owned originally by Jan Darmadi of Jakarta, Indonesia. He did not like the naked rear end styling, he requested some "customising", which was executed by Italian Motors in Hong Kong. The front bumper was painted red, instead of its original black. Side lines were painted yellow instead of black. A large air vent (grille) was added in the rear panel between the lights. Also an unusual grille was mounted between the exhausts, below the rear bumpers. None of these modifications were done by the factory. Marcel Massini
Thanks. BTW, the car was a rocket and as far as I know the only 288 GTO that had clove cigarettes smoked in it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes. That's the car. It was at Cammisa's in the fall of 1997 in Burlingame, CA. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Jeff Provo and Mike Alred were in charge of the shop in those days. Car was an interesting 288 GTO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Interesting is one way to describe it. God help that car. Hopefully someone put it back to its correct configuration.
It was fast as stink....I buzzed it up and down Carolan Ave. a few times. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Seems they tried to simulate the rear of a late model USA 308 with the lower exhaust grille, though red instead of stock black, which is how 308's came.
Although I cannot verify this, I understand that in recent times it has been returned to 100% factory original configuration, thankfully, Marcel may have more input here.
Guilty as charged !! We did those mods as per Mr Darmadi's request, yes its a US version 308QV exhaust shroud, I think the grill in rear panel was from a 308 front hood, Jan also had a 308 grey Koenig turbo and a white 512BB Koenig. I can also vouch for the clove cigarette aroma from day one when we collected it from the factory. I might have related before, but to run it in we drove Modena to Rome outskirts to Brennero and back to Modena in one day. Memorable to say the least.
That GTO definitely smelled of clove....not bad, but the aroma was in there the few times I drove it. We had the car at Cammisa's for quite a while looking after it as we did with many other significant cars at the time.
