Mr. Massini, I'm Italian and I own and owned many cars, so I know very well how Italian registrations are. With "Registered as Yellow", I mean it was Yellow when it was registered the first time, that is when the car received the official first plate MO846288. Ciao
Alberto, this so-called yellow GTO, do yourself a favor, let it go, we all know what it was or was not.
As far as I experienced on my regular trips to Basel there's no such thing like humour in Switzerland ;-) Repeated attempts may end like this: Oh well... Best from Germany Martin
Joe, you are right but please allow me to be a bit more precise here: Chassis numbers 47647, 47649 and 47711 were originally painted Rosso Chiaro Ferrari, whereas ALL the other 288 GTOs were originally painted Rosso Corsa FER 300/6. Marcel Massini
Thant’s fascinating. Any photos of any of the three in Rosso Chiaro Ferrari? Do they all still carry their original livery?
Here's 47711 two years ago in Japan. 47649 has been repainted to yellow (see earlier posts and/or separate thread). Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you for sharing. Yes, I was able to see the yellow GTO at Casa Ferrari 70th Anniversary display at Penble Beach, 2017.
Marcel - one other question - were these three painted Rosso Chiaro Ferrari for any particular reason? Were they special orders/requests by highly significant owners? Was there anything else that set them apart from other GTO’s, such as interior features, etc? Thank you.
Without looking I would say with those low serial numbers they were simply prototype's used by Ferrari to develop the new GTO model. The Rosso Chiaro is an old historic paint color. Number 50255 was a GTO show car and the GTO's that Marcel mentioned in a different color predate the show cars and there were two of those cars. Pininfarina had one car and Ferrari had a second GTO for display at Geneva in 1984. The Rosso Chiaro paint work was an unknown detail!
Although both cars you mention wore the registration 308 GTO at various points, this image is of 55721. Paul
Sunset. These days you simply pull over, point your iPhone, click, and all of a sudden it's as if you know what you're doing and you become an ace photographer, of course, the subject matter helps Image Unavailable, Please Login
Now you're just being modest Joe. I know you have better equipment than that, and have developed quite an eye over the years and knowledge of the techniques involved.
