The dealers are telling everyone the next challenge car is a hybrid car based on the 296. Anyone heard anything?

Makes sense but I imagine it will be at least 3 more years.

Not sure about the Challenge but the 296 GT3 will be a V6 Bi-Turbo, debute season will be 2023

the homologation period for the 488 GT3/E will end 2023. The new 296 GT3 will debute by end of 2022 and should get starting delivered to race teams and customers in 2023. From 2024 onwards the 488 GT3 will not be homologated anymore. Development for the 296 GT3 has already started by Ferrari Competizioni GT Department.

As said, the Challenge can run a different period as it is Ferraris own one make series but I doubt Ferrari will use the current 488 Challenge after 2022 my guess is that we will see a transition year in 2023.

Chris is on his game again. I heard the same. 296 is the next challenge coming end of 2023. I wish Ferrari would scrap the street car chassis and just go with a detuned GT3 like everyone else. It saves cost.

Heard more or less the same. They will keep the Challenge 488 for 2 more years after which it will be 296.
However everyone kept saying it will not have the batteries inside.
Strictly ICE only. Unless FIA changes the rules.
Adding the Hybrid system will pose a serious issue with safety and will make tracking these cars much more complicated.

Are ew really talking about a Challenge/GT3 version of the 296 if will not have the hybrid elements? I assume the 296 without the hybrid system would end up to be fundamentally different car...

it'll be a real ball ache for Ferrari to rework the car without the hybrid system imo

the 296 GT3 will be a V6 bi Turbo. No Hybrid. Development has begun and testing will start around March. official presentation is expected for Finali Mondiali 2022 and delivery for 2023.

and yes, the 296 GT3 will be a fundamental different car from his road going version.... (like the 488 GT3/E already is)

Yes, I also wondered why the French? With all due respect, but Ferrari is an Italian car and Michelotto did and do a fantastic job. It is probably about costs but probably ends up in misery. Misere is very French...

I read that the engine output alone is over 600 Cavallinos. Can't be all bad.

I don't mind a Ferrari V6 twin turbo. If it is anything like the Alfa V6 engine, wow. It's going to be fun.

I understand the GT3s are open for order now, but what about the 296 challenge? Does anyone have info on them yet?

I’m going to assume due to sanctioning race organizations, GT World, IMSA, WEC this 296GT3 is not a hybrid? Any word if Ferrari Challenge Series for the 296 will be hybrid or all ICE?

My understanding is the challenge 296 will be ICE just like the GT3. Just interested in the challenge version for myself though… but not sure if the switch will be in 23 or 24 season.

I heard the 488 will run for 22,23 and 24. The 296 CH will be running in early 2024.

Here we are in early ‘23 and still no announcement for the 296 challenge. I did speak with my dealer today to confirm I’m on the list for one but he didn’t have a date for the launch (orders to open). I’m guessing it’ll be later this summer and they’ll incorporate the 296 and 488s in series next year as they had in the past. They’ll need to have them announced, specd, and enough of them delivered to start the ‘24 season so time is ticking…
