    Dear all

My name is Niklas Walentin, I'm 20 years old and the proud owner of a euro 308 GTB from 1978. The car is in excellent shape, two owners from new and with 82000 km on the clock.

Before I got it had just had big service done, inc. replacement of Weber carbs, so everything should be ready to go. I just had carbs retuned at the official Ferrari Dealership and Service here in Copenhagen, Denmark and she spins amazing.

    BUT !

I have problems starting the car from time to time in cold and now also in hot.

COLD : The car has been sitting for 10-14 days, doesn't start in first attempt (30 sec with fuel pump until it makes a curtain noise, full choke). 2 attempt doesn't start as well, I try to help it with pumping the gas pedal a bit. 3 attempt, its almost there just about to start, pump it until starts, But it start with a huge rev up to 6000 and then slowly goes down during 10 sec to 1500 rpm.

Now, am I just being a young impatient ignorant or is there something wrong ?

WARM: The car has always been starting perfectly, but now today after sitting for 10-14 days, when I wanted to start, 5 sec of fuel pump and turn the ignition on it kind of "blocks" the ignition. There comes a weird ugly "warning-alike" noise. I kept trying a couple of times but gave up and left it for a minute. Then tried again with half chocke and then the ignition when on at the car fired right up . Just have to say that the car had been driving for 15 minutes before I shut if of first time .!

I look very much forward to hear from all you with more 308 and general Ferrari experience than me and hopefully with advices i can give on to my mechanic :)

    Thanks,
    Niklas Walentin

You can start by checking the fuel pressure and trace for any vacuum leaks.

I imagine that Niklas has solved the problem by now and/or got used to how carbs run. Welcome, Niklas and sorry nobody responded all those years ago :)

Good to see you still have the car and hope you will own and drive it for many happy years to come.

Just in case you are still struggling to start it, don't use the choke, let the fuel pump pressurise the system for a few seconds, pump three or four times and then turn the key.

It has always worked for me.
