Ferrari 328 GTS mistery Hi Ferrarista! I am about to buy a used red Ferrari 328 GTS in Europe. The thing is, that the car was allegedly first owned by a famous Swedish guy called Stefan Wiklund and besides a lot of cars he also owned an airplane company. I am about to get it from the second owner who bought the car in Sweden from a car dealer 4 years ago. He bought the car at a high price because of this famous pre-owner. He thought that someone having a lot of cars would not have driven this 328 GTS to much, so it would be a good deal at the end. It says that it is a Swiss version. Looking today at this car, there are a few things troubling me: The interior: Especially the leather around the dash board looks very strange. The stitches do not close with the borders properly and the leather around the top air blowers is broken. It looks as if the car was exposed to a lot of heat. Which makes me wonder as Sweden is not the hot and so sunny place . The paint: It got repainted from the front to the back. The second owner did not repaint it that much. Just the hood as it had a scratch once. But the repainting-job is the whole top until the back. It looks as if it was painted before the second owner bought it. So to say a make it look nice paint job before selling. Was it needed because of stones hitting the front quite a lot? But when the second owner bought the car it had so to say 42.754 km on it. Is the front that vulnerable? (It has ~64.520 today) The seats: The seat backs do not stay exactly still. They move a little bit forward if you get out and lean back if you get in (around 5 cm). And now the most intriguing (but I could also be dreaming) fact: The car papers have an original Ferrari-Car sticker in it, saying that the car is a: Ferrari 328 GTB Chassis: ZFFCA 19(?) S 0000780 18 or 10 (?) Engine: 13625 Registered: day: 03 month: 08 year: 88 But the above information was crossed out on the sticker. The info written above by hand is: Ferrari 328 GT S (!) Chassis: ZFFCA 20(!) S 0000780 46(!) Engine: 13620 (!) This information actually matches the car. So my suspicion is: Could it be that this was given a famous identity. But that in fact this Swedish Guy Stefan Wiklund never ever owned a 328 GTS? But an 328 GTB instead? Again, It could very well be that I am dreaming and to suspicious. But it would really be interesting to know So what do you think? Cheers, STC
What does it say on the Chassis plate / Engine / Steering shroud ? this should give you a fairly reliable answer to your questions about its identity have a reputable Ferrari mechanic inspect it before you make an offer, if there is anything wrong he should be able to find it
I live in Sweden and I don't know who "Stefan Wiklund" is...If he is a famous guy I would not pay a higher price for that car, because he is not THAT famous in Sweden. Per Gessle, in the group "Roxette", had his car for sale in Sweden, a 456 GT, he is more famous = a bit higher price, and the car that a member of a car club in Sweden bought, previous owner was Michael Schumacher HE is famous, the price of that car should be a little big higher. A little advice, before you buy the car at a higher price check out how famous the guy is in Sweden. I would not buy the car at a higher price, a famous guy to me is famous for almost every guy in Sweden not to a little bit of them in one Town.
A lot of Ferraris had famous original owners. I would not pay a penny extra. In fact, celebrity cars are often pretty beat because the money didn't mean anything to the owner and were often in the hands of "non car" people. You can run the VIN and it will tell you if it was a B or S. This car has enough questions that I would walk away. 328's are not rare. Dave
