I have a 1988 328 and I am considering trading it in for 02 or 03 Maserati. The Maserati is only a little more expensive. I like the convertible model. I've heard some good and bad things about the Maserati. I'm happy with my current car but I thought I might try something else for a while. Anybody own both or have some experience with the Maserati? Did the 03 convertible receive the chassis update, or did they do that in 04? I would only be interested in the stick shift. Thanks.

Wow, they depreciate! Who flippin cares, every car depreciates for the most part. Does that make the car a horrible car to own? Highly doubt it. If you like it buy it and enjoy it. People really need to stop worrying so much about depreciation and stop thinking they are going to get all their money back when they decide to sell. Use it, enjoy it and if and when you sell get as much back as possible. Smile and call it a day since it is a used car!

You should poke around the Maserati forum on this site a bit. '02 was the first year, so you might look at an '03 or newer as a better deal with some improvements. I agree with you, I like the cars -- subtle, elegant and rare.

With regard to depreciation, the real eye-watering freefall is probably done, but ultimately I'd guess 328s are going to inch upwards while a Maser Spyder is going to continue to fall for another decade.

I wouldn't obsess over it, but depreciation is like maintenance and repair in that it's a cost of ownership. Unless the money involved is no object and you plan to drive it until it's destined for scrap, it's a valid idea to consider depreciation.

They really don't depreciate as much as people think. They don't nearly sell for MSRP usually. Go to your dealer and you should be able to get a huge discount off MSRP.

And depreciation or not would you like to tell me what car has a beautiful exterior, one of the nicest interiors I've had the pleasure of spending time in, a V8 Ferrari engine with 390hp, a very fast shifting F1 style transmission (Cambiocorsa), 4 year warranty that can be had for less than $100k? Not many and with used ones going for $50-70k, the car is a hell of a bargain. Nothing will get you the Maserati experience for the money you spend. IMO for the money there is no better car.
