Hey there folks. I was driving back yesterday afternoon around 4 pm back from Prescott AZ to Wickenburg in our Ferrari and saw a red 348 Spider that had just been in an accident. My wife and I were coming back from spending the day with the Ferrari club of Arizona out on a nice drive. This 348 was not with our drive though. The motorcycle it collided with was in pieces and the driver was in the road under a tarp, dead...not good. We passed an ambulance on just prior to the accident. Looking at how bad the 348 was I wouldn't be surprised if someone was hurt there too. Hopefully they are ok. Does anyone know what happened? Bottomline is everyone was out trying to have a good time and someone got killed and the other folks I'm sure got hurt. I'd be curious to see what exactly happened and see if there is anything that can be learned from it. Be careful out there driving. It was the most fun my wife and I had ever had in our Ferrari up until we saw that. Sorry to bring up such a downer subject. Nugget

That's the reason why I don't let (or at least I'm trying hard) my girlfriend have a motorcycle! If you get into an accident in a car, you'll most likely survive, but on motorcycle it's a whole different story. Anyway, sorry to hear about such a horrible accident.. :(

I send my condolences for the family of the lost soul. Doesn't matter how it happened, but I am sure they will be sorely missed.

Accidents do happen, that's why they are called accidents.

As much as I love motorcycles, I am feeling that it isn't worth the danger to me. I have seen too many people go down on them - including me, when I was the passenger on a Honda - driver was tossed as we went down, then the bike landed on top of my right ankle. I barely missed my face on a barbwire fence.

When I was younger, about 10, I saw a motorcyclist go down near my house, hit by a car. I ran home, had mom call for help, and I ran back to the scene with a blanket. Covered him for shock (yep, Girl Scout!), and stayed with him, kept him talking until the cops and ambulance came.

Went to school, got yelled at, said what happened, forgot. But what I remember most was his mother coming over a few weeks later, returning the blanket, clean...and getting the biggest hug I ever had from a stranger!

We are lucky to be alive, every day is precious. We love our cars, and should enjoy them - safely. Live to drive another day!

I think the best we can do is to learn our cars, and how to be safe around others.

But everyone has friends and family...I remember that guy from the past, when I see things like this, and know that not everyone fares so well.

Tonight, my prayers for the motorcyclist and his family. May he ride with angels.

    - Julie

What section of the highway did this happen on??? Perhaps i might be able to get more information on it.

some of the sections of twisties between Yarnell and Prescott can get quite cloged up when there is a slow moving RV or granny driving. In other words not many passin opportunitys in those sections.

I have on many occasions seen the sport bike or Harley riders pull off some stupid moves in those areas and myself have come close to getting taged by one of them. In other words i avoid that highway on the weekends.

It is a shame indeed that some one lost there life and that a Ferrari was damaged :(

Was the Ferrari bent/dended at the front indicating it at fault, or was the ferrari hit somewhere else, indicating the motorcycle was at fault?

That would not indicate fault. It would only show the point of impact(s), and you have no way of knowing if the dents are from the primary collision, or from hitting guardrails or other vehicles/objects. You also don't know the situation that led up to the accident.

Nugget- that is horrible man! My prayers are with both parties involved in the accident.

I was driving my Jaguar to dinner one night and all of a sudden I see this commotion in my peripherial vision, a car pulls out of a blind corner in front of a group of motorcycles. All steered clear but one.

I ran over to the non-helmeted rider and checked his pulse, none. I then prayed for him to be accepted into heaven... then- put my sportbike in the paper the next day. Sold within a week to a college kid who paid cash... hope he is still around.

My family insisted I give up my bike, after the last (third) ER tour!

Probably the reason I'm here today. There is little protection, against other's mistakes!

    So sorry to read this.

Got to wear a helmet to have any chance of survival.I some cases they can be a bad thing but i would never get on a bike without one.Alot of people i know that had bikes when i got mine have since stopped riding because of friends having major accidents or fatal one's.They advised me to get rid of mine as well.Perhaps it hasn't hit close enough to home yet for me but I'm not getting rid of mine because others advise it.If i do it will be on my terms.Everone should be aware of the risks involved.I've read many sad stories since getting my bike.Just try to use your head out there and be alert for anything.

The craziest part of the story I left out was, this guy was an off duty police officer. Explain that one to me?!?! So sad.

Let this be a lesson to all who are out driving, you have to be aware at all times of all the is around you. Motorcycles are much too powerfull for people to handle without proper training. Accidents are that, we do not know what exactly happened here and the only thing we all can do is pray for a speedy recovery for those who were hurt. Godspeed to all.

The accident happened going up the hill towards Peeple's valley at around 3 in the afternoon. The 348 was smashed up pretty bad on the front driver's side and front left fender. The Ferrari was coming up the mountain and it looked like the motorcycle was going down the hill. As far as fault I am not sure whether the motorcycle took the turn too fast spilling out of the lane or the Ferrari maybe cut the corner or both. That was the biggest thing that hit my wife and I was that we all need to keep our eye's out as best we can since that road is so heavily travelled. I think every car club and motorcycle club was on the road that afternoon. Have fun out there y'all but be safe and keep your eyes out. Thanks, Nugget

That is the problem with that road on the weekends is it just packed to the gills. The last time i drove up that way i got caught up behind about 15 other cars, i saw a pack of bikes come up from behind but i had no place to go and neither did they. the next thing a saw was 2 of the bike go to pass me between the gaurdrail and my truck and the other 2 blasted to the inside of the corner with on comming traffic. I have never seen such idiots in my life. This is also another reason why i dont drive out to Apache or Canyon Lakes thru Tortilla Flats way to many idiots :(

I still have not heard any further info myself. At first i had the feeling that it might had been one of our students at the Institute.
