    Hey guys,

I was in the market for a 355 but have started to lean more towards a 348 recently due to it being a simpler vehicle, maybe suits my tastes more also as I like to tinker with my cars.

Something I have noticed more with the 348 than other Ferrari models is that there seems to be more “creative license” with them. I see many with different wheels, engine mods to bring it closer to a F355 in performance, painted lower panels, saw one tarted up to look like a 355, another with some wide body panels etc. Seems to be more of a modification scene around these cars which I don’t mind provided it’s tasteful. Is this a fair assessment of this model?

Much of the body mods stem from dislike of the rectangular lights. I think they - round light conversions - all look horrible, but they were in fashion 20/25 years ago. But yes, more body kits for the 348 than 355.

Engine mods… not so much apart from exhausts and headers. There’s one TT Challenge out there and of course the Koenig turbos (F48).

There seems to be a relatively higher number of 348s on air and coils than the 355. Probably due to the 348 being the cheaper platform AND the factory stance of the 348 being poor. The 355 factory stance is much better.

Not sure why you could modify a 348 but not a 355. You just have to decide what you want.

Of course, you can modify a 355, they just generally seem to be more stock than 348s I have noticed.

The only heavily modified 348 I really like is the Veilside from 2004. Long since out of production. I imagine very few kits were sold.

IMO if you have the confidence to modify a car you should do so without being concerned about what others think about it. (so what does it matter if one or the other is more commonly modified)

Every owner is free to do in his own car every mod he wants....but my two humble cents for any 348 owner: paint the "black" parts like the GTB/GTS/Spider, add 2 chrome prancing horses, paint the targa top if any......that's all. Keep as it is,
For example the simple "factory" Zagato version is....not so pretty.
It is a matter of tastes but consider the car as a product of its era.

depends, not here in the Uk. maybe different rims and as above painted sills/targa but not a lot else normally. anything modified beyond that gets hammered on price and is difficult to sell here.

if you want to go faster just buy a 458!

To each his own…but in my opinion this is ugly as hell. Also in my opinion this is a downgrade not an upgrade.

Objectively it’s ugly, agree 100%, I just have nostalgia for it. I seriously considered buy it — and a 348 — back in 2004 when it was released. I bought an esprit instead.

If it's your car, then do what you want to it. Do so though knowing that the resale value will be affected in some way.

You can put Porsche brakes on the front, paint the lower panels/roof, and put on 18" 360 wheels and have a beautiful car IMO :).

Ferrari did a lot of the mods to the 355 already - they revised the chassis, suspension, engine and transmission, the latter two very heavily. That's separate from the cosmetics. So there's less to be done on the 355, at least without spending a lot for reduced gains. So depends what you're after. I drove both and the differences were clear and fairly stark. The two things that stood out most were the transmission on the 355 was much more positive and quick, probably due to the solid vs. cable actuation, and the engine. Good lord the 355 engine is glorious. Sound, power, how quickly it revs. The engine/trans combo on the 355 is the best thing I've ever had the pleasure of driving.

A 348 GTC is a very good looking car (imo). The latter GTS/GTB and SS with painted lower and fitted with either the optional 3 piece speedlines that came on the GTC or speedline challenge (or even 355 for that matter) rims looks very good and keeps that awesome straked look. I had the Testarossa on my wall as a kid so have the same nostalgia and thought about a 348 until I drove them both. I'm also decidedly not a fan of heavy steering, but I may be in the minority on the steering feel thing where I prefer the power steering on the 355 to manual. I find it hurts my ability to make quick corrections.

There's a long thread on here around a lightweight 355 being built that is beyond what most modded 348's have had done to them so it's neither impossible, or if you look at the reactions in the thread, frowned upon, if done right. I'm making my second round of mods this spring, previously my car has had H&R springs, high flow metallic cats, non-cat y-pipe and challenge exhaust fitted along with a few other minor upgrades. Next will get a Capristo 3 so it's less obnoxious, f50 calipers and challenge rotors to fix the less than stellar brakes, and new tires on challenge rims (I had slicks on them but the brakes were not adequate to run them on anything other than autox). My goal is to not affect street-ability at all from current state, which I view as at the limit of what is acceptable due to the low ride height.
