i looked at a 1992 ferrari 348 yesterday located in northern illinois. it has 43,000 miles and the seller had paperwork for the 45,000 service done at a ferrari dealer in a chicago suburb. the total was a mind-numbing $13,400.00 besides the cam-belt and seals, there was nothing specifically significant in the service. the selling price of the 348 was $45,000.00 the service was 32% of the asking price. i'm a current porsche owner so i'm used to $100 oil changes and $1,200 for brakes. but fourteen thousand for "routine" service on a $50,000 car?

my maranello dream has been shattered. any 348 owners out there that can justify the service cost?

    thanks.

I think you answered your own question there is NO JUSTIFICATION even if the cost was half that much it's hard to justify. However it's also easy for the dealer and shop to work on a dummy invoice to impress the not so suspecting buyer.

if a major service is needed and theres nothing else needed besides the norm, new belts, cam seals etc, should cost no more than $5500 TOPS !!!!! best price i got so far was $4800 and $5500 was highest. if what you say is true hes taking you for a reallllllllllllllll good ride. be carefullllllllllllllllll

    Don't panic.

The $14K may just be a result of severe overcharging. You say there was nothing else "significant;" but if they rebuilt the engine, that could contribute to the $14K.

As someone said, "routine" service on this car is $5500.

Why don't you post pictures of the service records so that we may help you?

i can't post pictures of the service records because i don't own the car. i looked at the car yesterday. the 45,000 mile service was done @ lake forest sportscars and the receipt was two pages long. i look at forza magazine issue on the 348 buyers guide and they quote the 30K milage service with cam belts between $4,000 and $6,500. thats why i was floored by the service receipt.

    thanks.
