If it's a 95, you can pull the diagnostic codes yourself (OBDI). If it is a 96+ I believe any good OBDII reader from your local auto parts store will give you the basic diagnostics, clear codes, etc, but not the extended ones (F1 transmission for example).

IIRC some of the 96 OBDII ports had a couple of wires out of sequence from the factory - obviously if your car falls in that group that would need to be fixed first.

As far as just a nice at-home scanner I like the Cen-Tech Model 99722. You can get it on-line under $100 USD.

It will read your OBD2 codes but I would bet that it will NOT read ABS faults or Suspension faults on a 355.

Please fill out your profile, it will go a long way in assisting us, so we don't have to ask each time what year car you have, or your location.

A 1998 355 should accept a standard OBDII code reader. I have listed the code lists a few times in the 355 section. (actually the 360, but most all of the codes are the same, no one has found or posted the 355 list yet) North American cars have a problem with the OBDII connector not being properly grounded, and there is an open recall to have it fixed by the FNA dealer at no charge. I am uncertain if the same problem exists for other market 355s. Worth checking, because if the ground is not present, you may not be able to scan properly with some scan tools.
