It's shown in this Instrument diagram: https://www.dropbox.com/t/ZrMSY7vtcg6LAvgS Just follow the pink wires. You may be able to use a wire tracker to follow the pink wire from the Brake, Seat Belt and Door Open Warning Module. It has lots of branches though.
Hummmm But the pink wires never hook to the Orange / Black handbrake wire. (unless splice 30039 does somewhere else) My head hurts.
On the F1 car, they ran out of annunciator lights. On the gated car (some at least), there is a [(P)] annunciator (at position 5). Image Unavailable, Please Login Anyway... bedtime here...
Maybe check for continuity between the pink wire on the buzzer module and the handbrake (orange/black) wire? Try swapping the ohmmeter probes around. There may be a diode in the circuit. Bizarrely, if the two systems are linked, if you get a brake fault, you might be able to operate the roof with the vehicle at any speed... not that you should be driving fast with a brake warning light.
Would you be able to post a photo of the dash lights graphic from your F1 Spider owners manual? Where is your mirror heat symbol? You obviously can't have two heating symbols (as shown in the graphic in post #78). My Instrument wiring diagram seems to be different from the manuals. I can't remember if I drew the instrument panel internal wires according to wiring checks I carried out on my gated Spider. I really don't want to pull my car to pieces to recheck. The mystery green wire on pin 12 of the 13 pin instrument panel connector may be a power wire for your F1 slippery road and F1 Auto annunciators.
It's just like this...but the mirror symbol is different: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm in the middle of drawing an instrument wiring diagram for your car and it's stuff like this which throws a spanner in the works. I think my mirror symbol is where your F1 gearbox warning symbols is. Anyway, I'll recheck later today. All the OEM wiring diagrams show this basic basic architecture for the Instrument Panel. Image Unavailable, Please Login The wiring diagrams do not show what each annunciator light is. You have to work that out from the incoming wiring. Depending on the car, the wires I've coloured can be common earth or power wires. It depends on what is used to trigger the individual annunciator light. Disregard the wire colours. I've just used random colours.
For example, IF the basic architecture of the panel is the same for all cars: Light "f" (BRAKE) is triggered by an earth from the brake sensors, so it needs power coming in on the top (on the red wire in my diagram). Because light "e" is also powered by the common red wire, it needs an earth from the F1 display. I suspect the green wire on pin 12 is also power (from somewhere) and that the other F1 annunciators also need an earth from F1 display module.
After more headscratching, I see that this can't be true. My non-USA mirror heat symbol and brake warning light sit in the same places as your F1 warning light and brake warning light. Image Unavailable, Please Login In the Ferrari diagrams, 12v power is supplied to these lamps (via the LH instrument plug/pin 6). The mirror heat switch sends a voltage to the mirror heat light when it is turned on. With voltage on two sides of the lamp, it's not going to light up. To establish how your car is wired up, you would have to find someone with an identical car (USA F1 Spider) and not rely on OEM wiring diagrams.
At least we know the BRAKE light is supposed to illuminate on cranking on RHD F1 Spiders. See video at around 2:30 I don't know if the brake was applied, though. In this video, the light comes on at ignition turn on (LHD USA car) It goes out after start, but was the brake released?
hahaha. I need to get back in my garage. I can tell you I tried to pin out the Left hand side of the dash with a 12 volt source. Using my diagram above, lights 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6 (BRAKE) all lit up. The others did not so I need to revisit your revisions. I assume the orange / black wire to the hand brake has power? Maybe? I can not test right now as the dash pod is out.
The instrument panel provides the power through the lamp. However, you may also find power coming from the Roof ECU (pin B12) or the Roof Relays (via the relay coils). There must be a diode or two in there somewhere.
If you put power on pin 6, an earth on several pins should illuminate a number of lamps. On my car, an earth on pins 1, 2, 3, 4 will light up the b, c, d, f and i lamps (in the generic wiring diagram) My car here: Image Unavailable, Please Login So Suspension (comfort), Low fuel, Tire Press Low, Brake warning and Oil Temperature.
If your car wiring is the same, the SPORT, Low fuel, Oil temp, BRAKE and Slippery Road lights will illuminate.
Strange. The "lights" annunciator (actually "Front Fog") already gets power from the white/red wire on pin 5 from the front fog relay. If there was power on both sides of the lamp, the annunciator wouldn't work. Were you using my numbers for your checks? i.e. power on 6 (green/white on harness), earth on others? Image Unavailable, Please Login Here is my table again: 1) green/yellow: Oil Pressure Warning Light 2) orange/black: Slippery Road Mode annunciator 3) pink/black: Low Fuel annunciator 4) red? : Sport Mode annunciator 5) red/white: Front Fog annunciator. This is strange as the later model USA diagrams don't show any wires attached to this. The earlier cars show an orange wire here.* 6) green/white: power for annunciator lights (which use an earth to turn on) 7) blank????: This is normally attached to the BRAKE annunciator (on non-F1 cars). Can you recall if your BRAKE light illuminates on startup? (Don't put power on the instrument binnacle with your RH plug disconnected or you'll set an airbag light). You should also be able to turn on the light by shorting the pins on your brake fluid reservoir connector. 8) blue/black: LH turn indicator 9) black: earth 10) green/black: Headlight High Beam annunciator 11) green?: F1 Warning annunciator 12) green?: function unknown - not used on non-F1 cars. There are no more light functions on the F1 car, so this is puzzling. Or is the BRAKE warning now using a green wire? 13) white: F1 Auto mode annunciator The plain green wires are a bit of a mystery, especially on pin 12. One comes from the F1 display.
What are the 3 instruments in the centre of the dash on an F1 car? The gated car seems to show oil temperature, fuel quantity and clock. On the USA F1 car, there seems to be Oil Pressure, fuel quantity and clock. Doesn't the USA F1 have oil temperature?
F1 cars do not have an oil temp gauge. Just the gauges you reference. Oil Pressure, Fuel, Clock. Mine on the other hand has an oil temp gauge. I removed the clock and ran a wire to the sensor in the oil tank. Not all F1 cars have the bung in the oil tank, but mine does so that was an easy call.
To set a marker on where I am on this project and not leave it hanging completely open..... First, the wiring diagram for the dash pod lights you have (above) does not correlate to my car. The Brake, Fog, Sport, Fuel and Oil lights are correct. The F1, Blinker, Beam, Traction and Auto do not light as noted. I actually have an extra wiring harness (actually bought front and rear wire harnesses from FerrParts a decade ago because, well, they were cheap then and I wanted the connectors) and took that one apart. It had the pink wire in Slot 7 as you noted. This pink wire ran about 12" into the harness and then had a 4 wire splice going to: L/H Front Brake Pad R/H Front Brake Pad Connector by HVAC ECU that ran to the brake reservoir Pink wire on relay / alarm junction box PN: 61830700 However, on my car, I can find all of these pink wires and can see where they go into the wire harness. However, I can not see the splice or the single wire that should come out of that splice and go to pin 7 on the 13 pin connector. The splice must be in the harness behind the center dash and I would need to cut the wrap away to get at it. Something happened here that makes zero sense. So....instead, I ran an orange / black wire from pin 7 direct to the hand brake switch. I now get a brake warning light if the hand brake is set, which was my initial objective. However, this is not set up to give me warning on low brake fluid or brake pad wear. Not happy about that. The next time I have the dash out (yes, I had the whole dash out a few years back for leather correction) I will dive deeper into this issue. Still uncertain how the system picks up the signal from the rear brakes and handbrake. Thanks for the help Ian. Priceless information you provide all of us.
I've just been trying to figure out the oil pressure wiring on the F1 car. Do you happen to know what the wire colours are on the pressure sensor? The gated car has an oil temperature gauge in the centre cluster with a brown wire coming from it (going to the oil temperature sensor). As you say, on the F1 car, this has been replaced by the oil pressure gauge. I'm wondering if the wire colour on your F1 oil pressure gauge is grey/black (Ferrari traditional colour) or if Ferrari have used a brown wire (i.e. a common harness to say, connector 41024). Connector 41024 shown here for US car (gearbox type unknown). Image Unavailable, Please Login It would be interesting to see what wire colours are on pins 13 and 16 (both sides of the plug) Anyway, too much disassembly required to check wire colours. Here's a updated F1 Instrument diagram, but there are still a few unknowns... including the above... https://www.dropbox.com/t/cSfbuvS3uBgiLmAo Still digesting your second post... Standby...
I suppose you could splice a pink wire into your new orange/black wire with the new pink wire coming from your "relay / alarm junction box PN: 61830700" as a temporary measure, but personally, I don't like tampering with perfectly good wiring. Although, by the sounds of it, the pink wiring is not particularly "virgin" on your car. I'll mark this in future diagrams. Thanks! I'm really surprised to see so many variations here. Ferrari should have been able to externally wire up the gated instrument panel without modifying the internals. Rewiring the turn indicator and high beam makes no sense at all. They're in the same position on both cars. Anyway, I look forward to your next foray into the F1 wiring.
Not sure on the oil pressure sensor wire color. I know there was supposed to be a brown wire for the oil temp sensor. However, I was not 100 certain where the brown wire was, so I ran a new brown wire direct form the gauge to the sensor in the oil tank. Could not find the brown wire on the back harness anyway so that was the easiest play to get what I wanted. In the end, who the hell needs a clock in the dash anyway? There is one in the radio, one on my wrist and one on my phone. I'll take a look in that dash / footwell area once our driving season is done.
Ooops... I just realised that the colours are not visible on the sender. Image Unavailable, Please Login Ignore that self-tapping screw on the WK terminal (previous owner "fix"). I've since replaced the sender.
