Was just wondering if anyone would know the diameter size of the air flow meter accordion type connector, because I want to order and replace it by a red silicon one.
    Thanks

You are aware that the accordian style design of these intake hoses is there because of the amount of engine movement which happens during normal driving and gear changes?

I am aware that some aftermarket sellers do indeed sell a product that is essentially just a couple of pieces of silicon hose and clips but I would question the wisdom of fitting such pieces on my own car...

Why? Even if the rubber bushes such as engine mounts and gearbox mounts are in excellent condition there is consideable fore/aft movement that the design of these parts is specifically addressing, these bushes are design specifically so the engine vibrations don't enter the chassis. When you fit smooth silicon hoses you risk the hoses popping off during any aggressive acceleration and braking with untold consequences, unless the alternative hoses have a similar accordian style design. If you wanted to design them out for say performance reasons (to smooth out the air flow) you would need to allow the entire air box assembly to move back/forth somehow which is not a trivial exercise and would likely require a completely new design of airboxes.

In the end I found multiple ways to increase hp and reduce weight.

There are simply many better ways to get power gains such as removing header cats, etc.

You can junk the entire intake assembly behind the drip tray panel which attaches the car bodywork intake that rams air into the airbox and fit a large diameter ram pipe (its exactly what the 360 Challenge cars adopted). Having said that it is quite a free flowing design in the first place so unless your upping the rev limiter and remapping after removing header cats, fitting race cats, fitting enlarged air flow meters and throttle bodies, etc. then your doing mod this alone will not guarentee any meaniful horsepower gain but could risk reliability.

I have no idea how the Bosch Motoronic engine management would cope if intake pipes popped off during a hard run, especially since the volume of air flowing could literally drop off a cliff in an instant. Hopefully no damage to the engine but I wouldn't like to bet a farm on it!

What about using a 3" Red Silicone Hump Hose? Do you think that would allow the same movement as the stock accordion hose?

No easy answers without you doing some leg work on length.

Remove the old part and extend fully then measure maximum length, do same on replacement part and see if they have similar lengths when fully extended. If they do it should be ok assuming internal diameter is at least as wide as OEM
