Had a peculiar thing happen today when the wife and I were out driving around. Towards the end of the drive, the car clunked/jumped a couple times when taking off from a red light. No unusual acceleration, slight uphill going straight, F1 was in auto at the time. What is a bit concerning is how forceful they were...almost like something was binding. When I got home, gave everything a look over and nothing obvious stands out...CV boots are good, no codes. Never happened before, and in the 10 miles or so home since.

Have searched the forum with random keywords (binding, clunking, jerking) but not finding a good match. Any thoughts?

Car is a 2002 with just under 13k miles.
I see no notes in the service history of PIS being adjusted, but clutch life was at 51 percent approximately 500 miles ago.

Speaking of the clutch - went to have it smogged last week. After leaving (smog tech did not turn off car) the clutch would engage enough to get going before disengaging (quick revving) - pulled over and after stopping/restarting, everything was good.

I've never experienced what happened today before, and it's pretty cool in Vegas right now. We were at the tail end of a 30 mile drive when this happened.

I had a very similar symptom a customer complained about. His heat exchanger failed and coolant pumped into the gearbox. I would be draining the gearbox before going any further.

I was thinking (with limited info here) a bad / sticky TO bearing

I am thinking the same as falsh32, sticking throw out bearing.

Earlier in the morning, my son and I went out for a drive. Nothing unusual aside from a P0431 - not unusual as I have installed Fabspeed headers and cats (shortly getting the 360trev treatment). When we got home, cleared the code and the wife and I went out. Toward the end of the drive, came up to a stoplight. When taking off, car jumped forward a couple times when giving it throttle.

This is where it gets tricky, trying to describe this jumping. It wasn't the "getting used to the F1 in 1st" jumping, felt like something was bound and released. Even looked behind me to make sure someone didn't bump me. Everything was fine right after. Went through the gears, had a few more stops before we got back to the house.

Would a throwout bearing or heat exchanger stick/go bad with so few miles?

To answer your question "so few miles" yes - 13k / 21 years is not little time for these items
My guess at this point would be a faulty clutch solenoid, air in clutch line, or bad TP bearing - again a guess
If you somewhat mechanically inclined and willing to buy a inexpensive diag tool ( if you don't have one already) .. i may be able to help get to a more defined list
At this point .. the next steps would be using a tool to bleed and diag the clutch circuit and also looking with a bore scope in clutch housing to see if oil is coming out of TO bearing - whether you or a mechanic do it is up to you

I have no idea, but often times resetting the ECU by disconnecting the power can clear up odd stuff. Have you tried disconnecting power for 5 minutes, then turning things back on using the master switch? You'd be surprised how many issues I've solved on Ferraris by just doing nothing more than that. I wonder if maybe the F1 system is getting an incorrect signal or something. Easy and worth a shot to reset the ECU in my opinion.

The jumping forward sounds like improper engagement due to something like low hydraulic pressure or a binding T/O bearing sleeve or something. Has anyone checked the F1 fluid levels and the clutch fluid levels recently?

Fortunately I am mechanically inclined. Have a Thinkdiag I've been using with the 360.

Just check fluid - looks clean and level is good. I'll see about getting her up on the quickjacks to take check out/scope the clutch. Assuming just remove the grate to gain access. Will break out the workshop guide and look into the bleeding procedure.

Really appreciate the help with this.
