Maybe a bad starter motor? Does it do this every time?

Why haven't you taken it back to the guys that did your synchos and transmission work? How long ago was it?

Yes it does this every time , but if it's a bad starter motor why would rocking the car enable it to start

Work was done on the car 2/3 months ago

Sounds like its getting "stuck" in first gear and not completely disengaing before the starter cranks. Rocking the car gets it out of first gear.

Here's a question: when you come home and drive the car into the garage, if you pull back on both paddles to put it into neutral before turning the car off.. and then secure the ebrake (assuming your garage is level) does the same thing happen or does it crank up first go.. when you know its in neutral?

This type of behavior isn't that rare and I think Curt is on the right track. The problem is that there are a lot of possibilities here: position sensor, selector fork adjustment, bad actuator. You need to seek professional help, someone who knows the system very well.

now later today I pulled into garage same routine this time it let me start the car but I must admit over the past phew weeks it does sound like it struggles to start maybe the battery could effect this behaviour ?

These are very different things. Is it struggling to start or nothing?

Exactly.. there's not having enough elecrical juice to turn the starter.. and then there's something blocking the starter from turning. I can't make that diagnosis over the internet :(

Might have to take it back or get someone to look at it.

JT- It is always the battery until proven otherwise. All kinds of squirrels starting late model Ferraris with marginal batteries.
