    Hello,

I am currently interested in purchasing a Ferrari 360 Spider. The car I am interested in has a previous salvage history, but has been rebuilt and had the inspection done, so it now has a rebuilt title, and has about 13,000 miles on it. Upon starting the car it hesitated to normally turn on and sort-of turned on, where the RPM's stayed at around 500-600 RPM's for about 10-15 seconds before the car fully turned on to normal cold-start RPMs. The Check Engine light was on. Also I noticed a rattling sound coming from the rear, so I took a look, and it seemed that the cat was making a random (non-consistent) clunking sound, like there was a large loose chunk in it. I plugged in the OBDII and got the following codes:

    P0300 Random Misfire Detected
    P0050 HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 2, Sensor 1)
    P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
    P0308 Cylinder 8 Misfire Detected
    P0305 Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected
    P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire Detected
    P1198

This was alarming to me for many obvious reasons, but also because the misfires are not all coming from the same bank. I was wondering if anyone here has any similar experience with these issues. I know misfires can have many causes (spark plugs, coil packs, fuel pumps, fuel injectors, injector rails, bad cats, leaky gaskets, to name a few). What I am scared of is buying a car that will cost much more money to purchase and repair, than a comparable non-salvaged car. Just looking for any thoughts and advise. I appreciate the help in advance.

My short advice is run away from this car. Pay more for a no-story one. There are plenty around. Also, pay particular attention to the spider's soft-top operation. It cost about $40,000.00 at the stealership to replace the complete assembly.

Yes, that is a good point. After thinking about it, it doesn't make much sense to buy the car. Too many unknowns, and the check list of repairs could be endless. I appreciate the advice. The search continues...

Rattling from the cats could mean loose ceramic honeycomb waiting to be sucked into the engine. :(
