    Hello,

    just sharing my experience in ordering a new timing chain for my 412.

    I ordered from one of the usual suspects, and the quality of the timing chain is VISIBLY inferior to the original Renold that was in the engine.

    I have now ordered a Renold GY06B2BN - with a link and cut to the exact length (178 links). This was also confirmed as being the correct one for my application by Renold themselves through the distributor that is selling me the chain.

    The cost is 200 GBP which is more than double, but this is not something where one should be saving.

    I will take pictures once I get it, but comparing the old chain (Renold) to the new one (unknown manufacturer), the difference is very obvious.

    Conclusion: BUY ONLY the new RENOLD chain.

    That is the same chain I've bought a few years ago. Their new Synergy chain should be superior to the already good Renold original chain. Do you have the part nr. for the link ?

    It was just ordered as a "Duplex Chain Connecting Link".

    FYI: The Renold red chain costs 50£ vs 256£ for the box, and both are rated as having the same tensile strength (16900 N).

    However, Renold guarantees that Synergy chain three times longer than a non-Renold, or the next chain is free!

    Ok,thanks. I bought a 25ft box as it was an all or nothing deal. Just need the link and a plan.

    As to how you want to replace it, there are a few options.

    I depends on the condition of many other components; gear pulley needle bearing, tensioner, gaskets, etc.

    I decided to remove the engine. PM me and I can guide you on what your options are.

    Thank you. I would have to replace it at some point - this season or the next. It has streched as I noticed when checking the cam timing. Left sylinder bank was off by a few degrees. Condition of the tensioners looked good back then but I need to inspect it all again as it's been a few years. Luckily the chain hadn't been overtightened so tensioner wear was normal.

    There are more options for chains, as I am new to these engines.

    There is also a Japanese chain, that is probably as good as the Renold chain and costs considerably less.

    I am sure they make great chains. If I would have know before, I would have bought this brand.
