The market for C4s bottomed in the late 90s early 00s in the low 50s and has come back some. $119kUS is over the top.

I follow the F430 market like a Hawk, because that's what I've got and I'm see many cars on the marekt not moving...Supply Side Economics 101.

I want a vintage, but don't have a spare $2M to $10M for something really interesting. This car is now at $84k on ebay, which I would assuem it tops, and ebay never gets top dollar for Ferraris. The C4 owner says its NOT a show quality car ! For $120k it should be Pebble Beach perfect.

C/4s have been moving up. $119k is definitely a bit high, for now, but not totally outrageous as an asking price, for the right car.

Incidentally, this thread should be in vintage.

119k is crazy. really nice ones go in the eighties to high seventies.

i like the darker colors myself, almost bought a black one once, until I drove it. Didn't fit me, and not much fun...heavy and sluggish handling.

But the C4 has possibly the best exhaust note of any Ferrari out there!

I think the GTC/4 is a beautiful car save for the triple taillights. I'm not a fan of those at all on any Ferrari. Too busy. Imagine how beautiful the car would be if it had quad rounds.

Otherwise, I really like the interior (because it's the same as the 365/400/412...and I like the layout) and I think the body style reminds me of a slightly updated Daytona.

I aspecially like the rear window and trunkline. I think values will climb on these before values climb on the 365/400/412 (if the 365/400/412 ever do climb.)

There have been a couple of 5-speed 400is on Ebay recently that have sold for more than $30k....

Is there normally a problem with second gear on these cars?

I've driven a couple of C/4s over the years, 97% the same driving experience as GT4 2+2. Dash is nicer in the 2+2 (wood versus metal).

One major mechanical problem could put you upside down financially on a car like this. It costs the same, if not more, to do an engine rebuild on this as a ten million dollar V12 Ferrari.

Yes, but that's also true for any low dollar V-12, and even for mid-range cars like the 330GTC and Daytona.

Look on the bright side, its a cheaper entry cost for exactly the same headaches as owning a GTO...

Same here on the 330 2+2...the best precautions that I can see are conservative driving habits...even 40 mph is fun in a vintage 12...and obsessive preventive maintenance.

On the bright side, if I ever have to do a full or partial engine rebuild, I will take out a mortgage and have my car rebodied and/or do the engine with a large power gain in mind.

FYI, this car is also on www.ferraribuy.com for $97K, so don't let the ebay posturing scare you off.

I really wanted to buy this car, as I live nearby, but unfortunately it didn't pass my PPI. The search goes on....... :)

Any leads out there for NICE GTC/4's for sale??????

I would feel better dumping 50k into one of these for a major repair then a 365 gtc/4. You might actually get your money back if you needed to sell.

Depends on how long you hold on to them. Even if you shell out a lot of money, there are plenty of other distractions out there (golf, cruises, wine) that once you're done with the experience, you don't have anything physical to show. You can still get some of your money back if you ever try to sell.

I actually own one of these and like most Ferrari vintage 12s, once the deferred maintenance is caught up, they are terrific cars, mechanically bomb proof, very, very fast and fun to drive. As to 365GTB/4s vs 365GTC/4s, remember Enzo only made power trains, the things you use to name each of these cars (bodies)are a product not of Ferrari, but Pinanfarina or Scagletti. It was those houses, that conceived, designed and built the bodies and interiors for Enzo. So I recommend not starting with bodies, start by finding the Ferrari power train you like, THEN pick a body for it, not the other way around, Michael Bayer

I wouldn't bet on it. GTC/4s have actually gone up significantly in the past few years-- I was looking for one a couple of years ago, and most of the asking prices were in the 40s. Now, good luck finding one in the 70s!

Also, I don't think Ferrari owners pay much for maintenance done by the previous owner. The car may sell more quickly, but you won't see much of a return on any maintenance dollars spent. Pennies on the dollar, if anything.

This is because most Ferrari buyers assume (rightly) that they will need to spend $10-20k on deferred maintenance after they buy it, regardless of what the previous owner claimed. Secondly, buyers of the mid-high dollar cars often want to redo everything anyway, to make it their own.

two years ago i sold a daytona for $125,000!! difficult to sell at the time. was going to purchase a gtc4 for half. missed. i like the drive and overall experience of the c4. i recently looked at the $119,000 special. very nice car that had some impressive receipts and it showed. all new leather interior, carpets and mousehair dash. drove extremely well. didn't want to pay in the high 90's yet. i suppose the price reflects about half of daytona prices oh well.

Gentlemen, I have owned my C4 since 99. At the time i was looking for a Daytona. As it happened, the consultant that i was using to find a car was completing a restoration of a client C4 and he owned a Daytona. i was fortunate to compare and drive both. In 99 I could get a solid C4 and restore it for the price of a an average driver Daytona. I obviously chose the C4 and have not regretted it for one second. We have won numerous FCA platnium awards. A first at Palm Springs and a third at the PV coucourse. The Car has been bullet proof and the only maintenance I have had done (beyond fluids) is one service with the Carbs and timing adjusted $1,200.00 ( sorry boys no rubber bands here) She's ready for a clutch and i suspect that this will be a bit pricey but worth it.

Was this the right decision? Well, that depends. If we are evaluating the car as a driving experience the answer is absolutely yes. From a investment prospecive the C4 has doubled in price since i bought it. I effectively put 50K on the table and if I wanted to take my money and go home I could walk away with more than $100k. The Daytona has gone from $100k in 99 to $220 today. Nearly the same return.

The driving experience; everywhere I go, Car people stop and stare. I get the thumbs up while driving and the kids in the lowered Japanise cars try to race me. The exhaust note that the car makes at 4k rpm is unrivaled. Men flock to the car and ask to look under the hood while their wives or girlfriends cower with embarrasement. I did get a nice complement from an attractive woman in Laugna who came up to me and said that upon spotting the C4 she had to " Stop, Drop and Slobber " . Nice, and no worries I wiped it off when she wasnt looking.

Actually, the more that i think about it, I realize that the C4 as an investment has been a complete disaster. I will never get a penny back because I will never sell. My heirs will have to pry the keys from my cold dead fingers.
