I need to remove both gas tanks to get them steam cleaned.

Can anyone tell me how to remove them?

They seem to just be "laying" there and held by a rubberized tape that goes along the bumper support bars.

    Thanks

If you pull the tanks I'd highly recommend you contact Dave Helms and get his fuel hose kit. He has every thing cut to length and it is the proper material to with stand modern fuels. They aren't cheap but well worth the money. Did mine back in 2009. There use to be a faint smell of gas in the trunk. It is completely gone now. You'll find it is not an easy job to pull the tanks, lots of hoses. The one up to the fuel filler is especially difficult. Dave's hoses are more flexible that the ones you will remove and will help when it comes time to put it back together.

@Ak Jim is perfectly right, my hoses were so dry that we had to cut them in order to move the tanks. You'd better have some replacement.

While you are there you can also replace the in-tank filters. I guess they are different in the 412 (due to the specific pumps), but there is certainly a pre-filtering setup that wants some maintenance.

    As a reminder : In-tank filter > pump > K-jet filter
(in-tank filter captures big debris detrimental to the pump, k-jet filter captures thin impurities detrimental to the k-jet).
