Hi guys, maybe a very stupid question, but I've just bought this modelcar from Hotwheels. But what year was the actual car made? Cheers, Lex
If it's the 410SA i am thinking of, then, the 1:1 car is a series I, which production of the real car started in 1956.... Post some pics of it when you get a chance... James
Here is a shot of my 1:43 scale 410SA series I, based on serial # 0493SA Image Unavailable, Please Login
well this is the one I've bought. Hopefully get it tomorrow. But I just can't seem to find any good info. The only thing I know, that it's a series 2, and that's pretty much it :-( thanks for the help guys!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have this model and I have to tell you, that you are not going to be diappointed. It is one of the best models Mattel has ever made. This much detail and photoetch on a $69 model is almost surreal. It rivals any Kyosho out there and for the money it doesn't get any better at all. I am even thinking of adding the black one to my collection too.
Ive got the same one Lex, but in black! Its AWESOME!! A fantastic model for the money. If its any help, mine has *Mattel 2008* on the bottom of the box. Maybe it was made in 2008? I dont know. You are going to love it.
hahaha thanks for that pap I was referring to the real car lol you always know how make people laugh. Maybe it's the Mt. Isa humour!!!
The model Mattel made is a copy of a one off car which is black today. 1957 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Serial Number 0713 SA. The car was originally burgundy with black roof, just like the upcoming Super Elite version from Mattel, but after a $300 000 two year long restoration in 2001 was painted black. Right now the car is in Palm Beach , Fl. This 410 SA was ordered new from Luigi Chinetti Motors by Richard Wolfe, a very wealthy 20 year old from Columbus Ohio who ordered the car custom built by Ferrari and Pinin Farina to his standards. 410 SA was built to be both very fast and very luxurious and featured many unique features. 410 SA SWB s/n 0713 SA features a built–in chronograph, compass, fire extinguisher, Blaupunkt radio with a reverberation unit, a Halda trip computer and dual rear window wipers. Wolfe owned and drove Mercedes, so this car was ordered with many German parts such as a 300 SL steering dampener and 300 SL exterior and interior mirrors and rubber faced bumper guards. 410 SA s/n 0713 was also the 1957 Chicago show car and was a feature car on display by Wolfe at the Sebring 12 hour race, 1957. 410 SA SWB s/n 0713 SA is the first of only five Series II 410 Superamericas built, all with the SWB 2600mm chassis, and has been restored to true Pebble Beach standards, finishing 3rd in class at Pebble Beach in August 2002 scoring 98.5 points. Its 4.9 litre Lampredi V–12 has massive torque and when tested new in 1957 the 410 SAs would rip through the 1/4 mile at 13.9 seconds, a very quick time for a car geared to run all day at 150 mph. In short the silver two tone is wrong as the car should be black, but I still love it.
1957 and here's a real one (s/n 0721 SA) in similar colour scheme. Jonathan EDIT: Damn! Beaten to it by Michael! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lol lol lol. Sorry mate, I actually thought you meant the model? I was being serious in my reply. I just finished a 12 hr night shift last night, been working on cars all day at my brothers place and I came home and read this thread and posted that. Perhaps I was a little tired when I read your post. I had a little snooze before, all good now. Beautiful car!!
Please be aware that HW makes TWO different versions! One is based on the mentioned one-off but the other has different details. Mainly different positioning of the rear lights and no wipers on the rear screen.
wow guys thank you so much for the great reactions!!! Honestly that's why you gotta love F-Chat Thanks again so much for the wonderful help!! Lex
I think this should be pretty close, an all original unrestored 410SA at Road America last year. Also did pretty well at Pebble Beach 2 years ago. I agree. I bought it with no great expectations but when I took it out of the box I was astounded. The detail is amazing for a mattel.
Awesome!! Thats the one I want. Errrrr, thats the one I got. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ELITE-FERRARI-410-SUPERAMERICA-BLACK-1-18-DIECAST-/400107247125?cmd=ViewItem&hash=item5d28401615 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I hadn't planned on buying this car, but now that I've seen these pictures, I don't think I can pass it up! Also, thanks to Lucky for the information on the provenance of the car on which this diecast was based, as it is as interesting as the car is beautiful!
don't let this model slip mate. It's a great model. Definitely the quality Hotwheels should deliver!!
