I need some guidance, how many belts does the 412 have?

    2 x for the A/C

1 x for the lower alternator (longer one)

1 x for the upper alternator (unsure of the length)

2 x for the power steering pump?

Is "too many" an acceptable answer? ;)

Parents had some '60s-'70s big-block Mopars and Cadillacs that had 4 functions with v-belts (AC, WP, Alt, PS), and it was just too many for ease of service. Even 3 makes using a single serpentine belt a better design decision.

A bit confused, as the engine was completely taken apart, not sure if I am missing a belt...

Don't have a 412 WSM (which may show the v-belt arrangement better), but there's a fairly good figure in the 412 OM (and I think that your list is correct):
    Image Unavailable, Please Login
2 for AC (crankshaft pulley -to- AC pulley):

2 for Power Steering (crankshaft pulley -to- PS Pulley) -- the SPC figure also shows the upper alternator belt going from the PS Pulley -to- upper alternator pulley. Having v-belts acting in series is a little bit oddball, but was probably a good design decision as a belt going from the crankshaft pulley to the upper alternator pulley would be kind of crazy too long (like the one ridiculously long alternator v-belt on a Boxer):

1 for Upper Alternator (PS pulley -to- upper alternator pulley) and 1 for Lower Alternator (crankshaft pulley -to- lower alternator pulley):

I guess that you should be thankful that your WP is chain-driven -- otherwise you'd another one ;).

Thanks, Steve, for this information from a few years back. I pulled the part numbers, so will provide them here for ease of reference:
    2 for AC: PN 105317, Gates 11M775, 8904-0775
    2 for PS: PN 100516, Gates 7M560, 8903-0560
    1 for Lower alternator: PN 108981, Gates 7M650, 8903-0650
    1 for upper alternator: PN 111285, Gates 7M670, 8903-0670

Bought the above from biedlers-belts.com tonight for less than $175 total incl shipping. (inside the US). I used the Gates numbers which I got from autodoc.co.uk
