Long time lurker here looking to possibly get into a Scud.

Any tips? Good idea, not a good idea?

I really like the timeless design and the rawness of it. Are they problematic? Anything to look out for?

Did some searching here but couldn't find too much info I assume because of the limited numbers.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Welcome to Ferrari chat

I will start by saying that getting into a scud now is good timing ... Depreciation is close to or at bottom

First make sure you have a qualified mechanic look at car you want to purchase .. checking clutch , brakes for wear above all things

From a person who looks at a car at someone's home

Here is a list to start with

    Keys
    All manuals
    Key fobs
    Tools
    Radio code
Vip book is a nice addition

Cosmetic things that cost money to fix

Carbon fiber in engine bay .. look for White/milky appearance
    Headlight foggy
    Curbed rims
    Under front bumper

Look for rubber stuck in wheel wells .. may indicate track use

Look for service records ... Would be good to have had a f1 fluid flush

    Test drive

Make sure no knocking in front suspension - this is common issue for these cars
    No lights come on
See if f1 pump runs for extended period of time .. relays do go on these cars

Have the engine and transmission mounts checked as well - common issue

Tpms at this point may have to be change due to batteries .. look at records for that

Batteries are cheap but should have been replaced by now

There was a few recalls for heat shields amd tires - look for these records

There is an issue of black paint flaking in door jams and under front hood - look for this

Looks for leaks around head gaskets , can covers

That is off the top of my head .. I am sure others will join in

Wow! Thank you for the thorough write-up.

Yes I'd like to enjoy the car and not have a "fixer-upper" with many issues.

What would be considered a good price point, mileage, etc. at this point?

I'm not too picky about color as I think all colors look good on this car.

    I haven't followed very closely

But the spread is large depending color and mileage and condition

It is from 130 to over 210 for a coupe

Red and white seems to grab more dollars then black to other colors

2008 are a little lower than 2009 mainly to the carbon fiber added to car ..like front lip and full rear diffuser
    So a black 60k car may be 130k whereas a 2009 red with 3k can cost over 200 .. maybe 210

Complete documentation with all papers , window stickers , tools, service records , seat covers, car cover, vip book will be worth a little more

Condition of course is key to pricing

This is all based on private deals

Dealer cars may command a little more

I always like to know owner before buying a car .. I like to buy based on owner vs car ..

Waiting for the right car is important..

If a chat member was to sell a car .. you can research some of it in here by his/her posts and feel even more comfortable with purchase

Wow great post for another Scud buyer/lurker!

Is the Scud really at the 'bottom' of the depreciation curve? Every example I see for sale is priced very high and comes with the 'very rare and hard to get' patter...

Hard to ever predict the bottom .. just seems that the prices have been roughly been steady since June of 2017 give or take 5 percent

The prices on advertised cars are not reflective of market .. using an app like hammer price or Ferrari market letter may be more useful

Never heard of Hammer Price until now. Do they show dealer auctions (wholesale prices)?

Not dealer auction but public auctions which is more in line with street pricing
