My friend and I were on the track and when he ran the car around the track a few times the power steering on the car would fail, no error messages fluid is good and drove the car home and no issues after the car was shut off and turned on. Has this happened to anyone and does anyone know what's the issue?

Sounds like a power steering pump, internal failure. Try sticking a magnet in the fluid and see if any metal comes out.

Perhaps the p/steering oil got hot and this has caused a problem?

I am not sure if the 458 has a p/steering oil cooler in it from factory?

My $5000 daily work hack has one and it's 10 years old.

If it doesn't have one, you might have to consider fitting one if you are going to do track days.

I have never heard of anyone having this problem myself, but not all of my friends track their 458s either.

They run 458 s around the Ferrari track all day for the client courses without problems so it not a cooling issue

Cheers mate, being for the Client Course do you think they might have put p/steering coolers in them from the factory to avoid this problem of the p/steering oil over heating doing track days?

Maybe all 458s come with a p/steering oil cooler from factory? I am not sure, but I will do some digging and see what I can find out.

And here we go. Ricambi parts diagram to the rescue.

Looks like it does have a p/steering oil cooler attached to one of the cooling system radiators.

I wonder if the fan on that side has stopped working on the OP's car?? Perhaps his engine temps climbed a little also if that fan was not working?

Maybe he should check the fuse or relay for that side radiator fan. It might have blown.

The p/steering oil cooler is #36 in this picture. It must share the cooling from the fan on that radiator.
