I have a 458 with a backup camera on it. The right LCD screen where the camera is has 4 dead pixels on it, and then the backup camera has this line going down the middle (the line moves depending on the angle of the sun) when it's being hit by direct sunlight.

The car is under warranty. Any comments on if Ferrari cares about dead pixels? And, then how about that backup camera? Are they all like this, is mine broken, or? The camera seems to work just fine when we're close to dusk or when the sun isn't pointed directly, but I have this annoying line going down the middle.

Again, undocumented feature or something Ferrari will fix? I believe that the dealer bounced this repair for the prior owner in New Jersey, but now we have dead pixels and the line.

I hear that the quality is better than in 1978, but I just hear it. I never owned a 1978 Ferrari.

    A photo is attached.

Ask the dealer to evaluate and see if you can get warranty coverage.

I don't know about the pixel issue, but every vehicle that I've had with a backup camera gets a vertical line when backing towards the sun.

The line isn't something we've seen on a Porsche Cayenne. I've never had a backup camera before though, so any input would be helpful. The service writer at the dealer said that he had never seen that.

I love my back up camera...especially at night. Looks like day.

If you crunch those rear diffusers we are talking big bucks to repair.

The "line" is common, a reflection, but hard to judge from what you are saying, i.e. normal vs abnormal. The pixels are visible and should be a simple matter of yes/no. Best

The backup camera on my 458 works fine and so far I haven't noticed any dead pixels on either screen. I think you should investigate with the dealer.

If you are noticing a line from the sun on particular days/ times of day/ I think that will be unavoidable based just on how lenses work. My guess is where they put the camera lens on the 458 leaves it susceptible to this- Ive seen it in my car too. It doesn't really bother me. I also got the parking sensors because I like having both levels of awareness for backing up. I have seen this kind of lens flare with other car back up cameras but its not on all and I think it just depends on how the light hits the lens and that will vary depending on the vehicle design.

Problems solved. Oddly enough there were particles on the screen which didn't come off with light rubbing by me, but which did come off when the dealer cleaned the screen. So, not dead pixels, but something else -- perhaps a sneeze gone wild.

The backup cameras just work that way. Lens flare it is.

In North Scottsdale Ferrari we trust. Also $395 for an oil change, which always seems to be a good idea. It had been 2 years. So, for the moment everything is fixed, and I guess I'll find something else to obsess about.
