Was wondering what are the differences between a 458 GT3 engine and the standard 458 and are those differences such that the 458 GT3 motor could or could not be used in a street car? E.g., if the ECU was tuned for street use, what would be the pros and cons of the GT3 motor?

The 458 race motors (GT2, GT3, etc.) actually produce a little less HP than the street versions do, due to regulations.

If you are seeking more power for the street, stick with the motor already in the car and maybe look into improving the exhaust system a little (inconel headers, after market exhaust) and/or perhaps some sort of aftermarket ECU tune or something.

The 458 Italia motor already comes pretty wound up from Ferrari, so even in factory trim, you are probably pushing the limits of BHP/liter - unless you want to start sacrificing reliability. Even totally stock, the 458 is already a very good balance of power and performance for the street. Unless you are attempting to build a 1/4 mile drag car, I really think adding more power to the 458 is usually a mistake; you generally just end up with an overly loud car in the end, which is usually pretty annoying to drive.
