I ordered my 458 Spider half a year ago and am about to configure my car. What I am finding most challenging is to pick the best body color.. there are so many colors that could work well with this new model. Originally, I decided on Grigio Silverstone as this looks mean and electric. But as I am a traditional Ferrari fan, I have decided to go for red.

But even with red, it's not easy. Rosso Corsa is cliched, Rosso Scuderia is too bright and Rosso Mugello is too dull. The good news is that there are some other Reds which look exciting: Rosso Fiorano or even the 3 layer paints: Rosso Fuoco and Nuovo Rosso. I saw a stunning red which looks like Fiorano in London but unsure (will attach a picture later). Any thoughts on these "new" Rosso colors? Fiorano is around Euro 8000 as an option, and Fuoco and Rosso are twice this price!

Thoughts, opinions and perspectives please?? Your help is much appreciated..

While expensive, I think the best reds on an Italia are the triple layers.

Rosso Fuoco is beautiful but at £15,000 it's a little expensive ;-)

Grigio Silverstone is the best colour for a ferrari i think, i saw a 430 of it go past me and ill almost blew my load... but red looks nice, my preference is that grey though.

Have you thought about a pearl white? Pick up a copy of this month's CAR magazine (or maybe it's EVO, can't remember). They test a white spider and there are lots of really nice pics. Makes the car look really good.

my 458 is a bicolor Nuevo Rosso with a black roof.

Here's a link to the thread with some pix of my car.

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=325048&page=2

Also, before I get a lot of questions about it, here are some answers:

    a) how much does Nuevo Rosso cost? -> about $28K additional
    b) how do you fix scratches -> I am confident that light touchup is easy to do
    c) how do you fix big dents, accidents? -> prob have to go to factory. probably
    d) does it add extra time to delivery -> yes, about 4 weeks
    e) do people notice you have it? -> dont know and dont care
    f) do you love it? -> yes

Rosso Fiorano or Rosso Fuoco. Both are amazing reds.

What kind of red do you want? Ferrari has more than 10 variants in their range and most of them are very different from each other. I really recommend seeing as many as possible in the flesh to make your mind up.

Personally I like metallics and the triple layer paints are stunning although like bdelp I have worries about touching up. There are two triple-layer reds: Rosso Fuoco, which has been seen on many photos and videos (just check the Top Gear 458 vs McLaren test). Stunning colour. And then there is the new Rosso Maranello which I have chosen for the roof of my 458. It is a more subtle, medium red with a slightly burgundy streak. Because of the triple-layer it has a lot of depth.

In the metallics it is also important to realise the difference between "micalizata" (with mica flakes) and "metallizata" (regular metallic). The mica paints are more subtle in their metallic effect.

Of course, it is also possible to choose your own paint and ask Ferrari to put that on.

It looks like Rosso Fiorano to me but I could be wrong. It's hard to judge between the reds from a digital photograph which may be under- or overexposed, have a wrong white balance etc..

Rosso Fiorano is one of my favourites and it would give a similar impression to the photograph when seen in real life.

Love this color. I saw this 430 a few years ago and have always thought of getting this color. Even looks like the steering wheel has the same color.

Thanks for everyone's input.. but noone has addressed the question yet of what color would look good on a SPIDER rather than the Italia.. note that the Spider has a different look around the B pillars and roof (obviously..).. so what color would work well with this aluminium roof configuration please??

No, Scuderia is the brightest of Red, the Dark sultry red pictured is bound to be Fiorano.

I had two triple coat pearl paint Lambos. The pearl paint looks sensational but is a ***** to repair. A door scratch can mean you need to paint the whole side of the car if you want to match the paint. If you go pearl, I recommend a clearbra to reduce stone chip anxiety.
