I think the back looks a bit like the carrera GT, which is a good thing Image Unavailable, Please Login
LOL! Who says I get rid of my 360 when I go for the 458?! It's already 40,000+ miles and will be 60,000 by then; who would want it?!
That was a good find , that is where they got inspired from for sure , i think that you can lift the little part with the grille up to see some of the engine with the top down , i still think that they should have made that grille part clear or who knows they may be working that on an option , as it now i love the coupe better
For some reason I like the spider with the top up better than the coupe, the cut off window just makes it look more FERRARI to me resembles f50 or something idk I love it
I'm surprised it took so long for someone to mention the resemblance to the F50 - but I agree with you that there is a resemblance there. Also, as I noted previously, and confirmed with the overhead pic, the windshield on the spider is different at its top edge, where it meets the roof. Straighter across and more F50 or Enzo-like (and 308 and Dino-like for that matter): Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Decent design, but it's not scintillating like the 360S was. Certainly does keep up the recent tradition of Ferrari having different design teams work on each end of the car.
Those are not hooks - they're the caps that cover the B-pillar post when the roof is retracted. They hide in the hollow of the flying buttresses when the roof is up - allowing the roof panel to neatly cap the post.
+1 I believe the 360 was designed with the spider in mind from the outset. the 458 is very good but not as great as the 360 design IMVHO.
Wow, you know I really disagree. If you go back 3 years and ask if it were possible to build a good looking hard top convertible replacement for the F430, EVERYONE would have said it would be crazy to try. To me it's an amazing engineering and design solution. I think it's beautiful and I think the new rear section is a real triumph. I would never have believed it could fall off that much to feed into the rear scoops. Did any of you guys figure out yet how the top doesn't become 1000 degrees after being over that engine at full speed for an hour? Who wants to put the roof up and be sitting in an oven with the top radiating heat down onto your bald spot? What ever they are doing to keep the top cool is amazing. If McLaren did this we would all be shouting "what's wrong with Ferrari!".
Maybe the reason for the lack of glass engine cover is that there is some insulation on top of the inlet manifolds to protect the roof when it gets folded down as well? no point having a glass cover to look at insulation material...
Wow man, I think you're right! I took the wing off the F50 and I also think the 458 looks A LOT like the F50! Image Unavailable, Please Login

I found a poor P shop pic I did of an F50 a while back minus the rear wing. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Anyone going to Frankfurt? Ferrari's Australian importer rang today to confirm stand tickets for the 15th. I'm a coupe guy, but I'm looking forward to sitting in the Spider - and the FF.
Looks great in black! Cool man, looks like the 458 Spider from that angle because of the lack of glass the 458 coupe has. From front/side on, remove that wing and it certainly has some resemblance to the 458! Amazing stuff. You lucky son of a gun! Need a travel buddy? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on both cars mate.
This may also explain the comments that the engine sound is somewhat less than the coupe if it's being muffled by insulation used to protect the retracted top.
Makes sense. The heat reflective and sound deadening materials used these days are really good quality. Lining under engine cover and above the engine should be well thought out so it doesn't cook the heads of the driver and passenger when the roof comes back up. I am looking forward to seeing pics and info as to what they have done to combat it.
Anyone got a pic of the rear end from standing height or level with the top of the rear deck? The hood bulge on the rear deck looks quite high and I suspect it will suffer a bit of California huge rear syndrome...
