Question: have we have collectively gotten over the fact that 488 is turbo? Personally I have as the engine in my 488 challenge I love, respect, admire and fear in equal measures. Curious if others are ok with this too.

Personnally I'm very happy with the turbos in the 488, since they solve the lack of torque issue of the low capacity V8.
Turbo hate is common among 458 owners tough :)

I think you are probably right but there is no reason to hate, 458 is a great car, 488 is a great car. Some of the most beloved Ferraris are turno, F40 and 288. Having done hundreds and hundreds of laps absolutely flat-out in the 488 challenge I just have so much respect for the engine, it is truly a masterpiece.

No hating. The engine is indeed a masterpiece. I think the 488 GTB engine very impressive and effective, but not the most endearing of experiences. I just want a little bit more "edge" to the experience. I am expecting the Pista will move the needle.

Hope you are correct. My wife loves the 488GTB - does that tell you something :). As a great all-rounder for doing long trips (done a few 2000km trips in with the wife in the 488) its fantastic. As an edgy tingly "boys week away" car (again done a 1000km drive with the lads) - not so much.

Owning a Challenge car speaks for itself and I'm sure does not translate to the street versions. I would love to have a Challenge and would not be bothered by forced induction in such a car. For the street though, not enough of a package to love the motor but the torque is a surprising bonus. Its the sound, size and redline that detracts still for me. Many hoping the Pista will make it all better but honestly no one will say they don't love the Pista given what they paid and what was required so far to get an allocation. My guess is nearly all that trade latest and greatest are over Ferrari going turbo with their high production cars as what else is there really that isn't forced induction. Will be a total non-issue when electric is introduced.

Just to add a little additional context to this EVO test....January’s CAR magazine (respected as the ‘daddy’ of the EVO style magazine) ran a triple test between the 3RS, Performante and 600LT. Their text contained the following....

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

The RS reluctantly won - the Performante’s appearance drove their heartstrings but ultimately they thought the RS was the best driving car. I suppose the point is that winners don’t really matter in this context - it is just so subjective - it’s what they feel and think about a car and how that chimes with our own preferences for brand, the way we will use the car and what our recent history has been (do you avoid certain brands that have burned you, do you fancy a change etc.)

Went for a day after Christmas drive with my CS and mate's brand new Pista. Bloody amazing cars the pair, but can't get my head around how far things have come in 15-odd years with the V8 specials. As my mate described it, Pista is like finding Miss World inside Santa's costume! It just gets better when you think it can't.

Not sure if I can agree there. Certain things are not subjective. After tracking 600lt I would totally agree with the assessment from that test. What they have written is so very true. Thank god at least someone out there in the world of motoring journalism was prepared to stick their neck out and be honest to the readers for once, and call it how it really is, amidst all the current BS hype placing 600 on top of the pile. It's a great car, BUT...

Do you know reason why the Pista was even slower than the ZR1 at NCM motorsports park during the pcoty? Because they didn't use the Cup 2R tyres. That's unfair because the ZR1 had GM specced massive Cup 2 tyres. They are even bigger than the Cup 2R tyres that were used in the GT2RS and the Senna had Trofeo R tyres. :)

Funny, when someone brings this up regarding the 720 others slam the notion that tires would factor much. Most of these cars with crazy track times have the Cup2R's - Perf, GT2RS, GT3RS and usually Ferrari. I am surprised they did not in this instance.
