Hi everyone - In my spare time I designed a 1/10 scale coda lunga body for R/C car chassis... I designed the body from pictures using CAD and had a mould CNC cut from tooling board. the body was then Vacformed in lexan polycarbonate and I had a set of wheels and acessories 3D printed from my CAD model by shapeways. Im having a sticker set made up for it too. it should have some radiator ducts too but they dont fit too well yet - its work in progress!
Hope you approve of the result

Looks pretty good! I wish you could make a 1/18 version to fit the GMP model.

    Thx,

Thanks guys, the car shown is on a tamiya group c chassis but it will also fit tamiya tt02 touring car chassis for 4wd version! The width across the front is 190 and rear 200. I designed wheels to fit both types of chassis. The tt02 has a wide rear track version that fits well...pic coming up....

How easy/difficult it is to make 3D body shape?
What software do You use ?
What machine to shape/made he Polycarbonate body?
Are the custom wheels plastic ?
Care to share the total cost of the body and wheels?

Sorry for the tons of questions but this is very intriguing.

    GREAT WORK !

ahh yes I saw the 1/18 scale one on ebay - looks nice. Im going to retromobile next week in paris so hopefully will see in in the metal - the coda lunga is such a great looking car its a shame its been poorly represented in anything other than 1/43 and slot car models. I guess it only did one race so its a bit specialist - but IS a hollywood film star tho!

I have done 3 more bodies - a yellow Francorchamps car, a Fillipinetti and Nart to add to the works car.

In answer to your questions - I took 2 weeks working on and off to design the body - just working from photographs and the limited 3 view drawings available.
it was not easy as I did not have 3 view illustrations that I trusted!
the software I use is the 3D cad package I use at work - its like siemens NX or Catia V5.

if you wanted to get into car body design I would learn Modo or a similar polygon modeller
    - I would if I had time....

I am currently looking for a new vacforming company thats interested in small batch production.

The wheels, wing, light pods and lower sidepods are 3d printed nylon. very durable but a bit expensive. each wheel is approx £10. I would like to sell the complete kit with stickers for less than £50 so I need to find a way to get the cost down or just have the wheels available separately.

The bodies Fit Tamiya TT01, TT02 and Group c chassis well. the tyres shown are HPI vintage racer tyres.

I have designed wheels that fit the TT01 and 02 chassis (hex fitting) - they're at the printers now.

I had a custom sticker sheet made up for the 4 versions mentioned previously.

I do plan to make the bodies available - F chatters will be the first to know. I am still very busy in my day job and this is really a hobby - I want the bodies to be as good as I can make them before I try to sell any.

thanks for your interest and patients!
