Mel, Is that foam you are using? Looks like the foam used for the floors under the carpet. I thought it was a silver material like you used to wrap a water heater? My car has no insulation but I have some of each material when I do decide to install.

I used water heater wrap from Home Depot cut to size. My next project is to make an insulation blanket form the same material used on the jet....its like an ironing board cover IE silvery gray.

Great idea Christian! The purists may not like it though. Where do you get that ironing board fabric?

Thanks Mel! Thats what I thought it was from the pic. I did pick some "rubber mat" material up at an "OSH" hardware store going out of business. It was the same material used on the floorboards under the carpet and under seats...

    Jaguar 15,

The problem with the foam is heat. It breaks down over time. But the foam is more factory correct as is not having one at all.

I saw a picture of the heat / sound insulation blanket on a TR and it looked stunning. Jo Anns Fabrics caries the material on a bolt. If I remember correctly, it even has the cross hatch pattern. I'm willing to bet its even bet its machine washable. The plan is to sew in eyelets that fit under the chiclet bolts. Easy on, easy off.

Give Henk, at HVL Italian Interiors a call he has a very close match to the foam insulation used on the TR and 328. It is a closed cell foam insulation.

It was installed as sound deadening. It you don't care about an extra DB or 2 and do not plan on showing the car just leave it out.

My foam pad is beginning to pull away - any recommendations on the type of glue to use to stick it back up?

3M makes a good spray adhesive , large green can....However in my experience..

When the foam starts to delaminate..its usually not because of the adhesive but because of the degredation of the foam itself....so reglueing it will not stop the problem, You will only grasp another section of decomposing foam...which will pull away again..

My advice is...remove foam altogether..use a plastic razor blade to clean underside of engine cover sheet metal and then paint with a satin black enamel paint by brush...

Until such a time you find a suitable piece of foam.I priced lyle tanners OEM foam at $900.00...so I passed.

This same degredation happens with the underside leather of the front lid ..cant be reglued unless it is stripped and cleaned of decomposing foam..

Bar none it happens to all testarossa's after 15 years.

Thanks Michael - makes a lot of sense. Mine was looking good when i got the car 2 years ago but I don't think it had been driven any distance in years. 3k miles later and a lot of heat i guess takes its toll!
