    Hello,

I own a 550 and I do about 1000 kilometers a year. I do my major service every five years. Is it still necessary for me to do an oil and filter change every year given the low mileage per year?

    Thanks.

    Nick,

It's necessary for you to drive your 550 a whole lot more a year and do an oil and filter change yearly.

Annually or the wheels will fall off. Brake fluid, too.

Of course, you could just look at the service recommendations in the owners manual.

I think it makes a big difference if your 1000 km/year is 200 5km drives (car never gets up to full operating temperature) or 10 200km drives (car is completely warmed up). Also, like it or not, if you ever sell your 550, most buyers are going to want to see annual fluid services, regardless of mileage.

Hard to go wrong by just following the factory service recommendations as Taz suggests.

I did 1750 kms. in 15 houres in my 550 in May 2020.
(Including washing the car mid ways and having lunch). From Monaco to Luxemburg and then up to Rostock at the top of Germany. Those were the days. Soon back in service through Europe…. Hoping to pass 200.000 kms. this summer. More fuel more oil more enjoyment :)

You wouldn't know that by following the BaT auctions. Many of these cars miss years of service, yet sell for big money. The lower mileage cars are the most notorious for this...and the buyers don't seem to care.

As a side note, I find it both amusing and appalling that BaT highlights "a recent oil change" as a significant selling feature...

Even if you don't drive your Ferrari too often, it's generally recommended to swap out the oil and filter once a year for better engine performance.
Basically, oil can go bad over time, due to the changes in temperature and moisture buildup, even if you haven't racked up many miles. Changing the oil regularly prevents potential problems like sludge buildup and engine wear.
